Overview
Senior leadership role focused on teaching and learning across the school, with data analysis, whole-school improvement, inclusive practice, and a two-day teaching commitment. The post holder will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team and contribute to the development of a rich, balanced curriculum and high-quality teaching and learning across the academy.
Key Priorities
- Make a significant contribution to the continued development and success of the Academy.
- Support the Headteacher in leading Teaching and Learning to maximise academic results and to uphold school values.
- Work with the SLT to ensure the strengths of the school and improvements in standards are understood in the local community.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Work with the Headteacher to devise and implement the strategic direction of the School, focusing on teaching and learning.
- Collaborate with the Headteacher, Trust and other stakeholders to articulate, share and understand the school’s and Trust’s vision.
- Translate the school’s vision into objectives that promote and sustain school improvement.
- Motivate and work with others to create a positive culture and environment.
- Support the implementation of the School Development Plan to ensure high standards, progress, and effective teaching.
- Ensure day-to-day operations align with Trust policies, vision and aims.
- Leading Teaching and Learning: monitor and lead a comprehensive, high-quality, cost-effective curriculum; respond to curriculum development at national, regional and local levels.
- Monitor, evaluate and review classroom practice; ensure accountability for pupil progress.
- Maintain focus on pupil achievement and deploy resources to support progress.
- Organise and monitor the curriculum with respect to Trust priorities, reporting findings to the Headteacher.
- Monitor the quality of teaching and pupil achievement, including analysis of performance data to drive progress.
- Managing the Organisation: develop structures and procedures to enable effective management in line with legal requirements.
- Produce and implement clear, evidence-based School Development Plans for improvement.
- Assist in recruiting, retaining and deploying staff and managing workload to achieve the Vision and Development Plan.
- Support growth and development processes aligned with Trust policy.
- Ensure range, quality and use of resources are monitored to improve education quality and provide value for money.
- Developing Self and Working with Others: review personal practice and pursue development; implement induction, professional development and performance reviews for staff.
- Treat people equitably and with dignity and respect to maintain a positive academy culture;
- Ensure clear delegation of tasks and responsibilities for effective planning, allocation, support and evaluation;
- Acknowledge and celebrate achievements to promote a positive culture; build collaborative learning across the school and with other schools/stakeholders;
- Manage own workload and that of others to support work/life balance.
- Securing Accountability: fulfil contractual accountability to the Headteacher; provide information and support to enable the Trust to meet responsibilities;
- Support the Headteacher in developing and strengthening the academy ethos and ensuring staff accountability is defined and reviewed.
- Strengthening Community: build a school culture and curriculum that reflects community diversity; integrate learning with the wider community; collaborate with agencies to promote wellbeing.
- Develop partnerships with parents and carers to support student achievement and development; invite community partners to enrich the academy’s value to the wider community; cooperate with agencies to safeguard children.
Safeguarding
- Ensure the school is a safe place for children and uphold safeguarding procedures to the highest standard.
- Be a named DDSL and support the DSL, promoting accurate recording and management of safeguarding concerns in line with statutory guidance.
- Ensure consistent procedures and staff practices for safeguarding and liaise with outside agencies as needed.
Other
- The duties are not exhaustive. The postholder may be required to undertake other duties within the general scope of the post. Any additional duties should not alter the general character of the post without consent.
