Senior Legal Counsel

Responsibilities
As a senior member of the legal team, you will be responsible for leading legal support across Confluence\’s commercial and regulatory activities in the UK and EMEA. The role involves managing complex legal matters including commercial contracting (particularly SaaS), corporate governance, data protection/privacy, compliance, and employment law. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, advise on legal risks, support global expansion efforts, and act as a strategic legal partner to the business.
Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor in England & Wales
- 8+ years PQE, including experience in a large law firm with a focus on transactional work
- Extensive experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, including SaaS agreements, procurement, software licensing, and NDAs
- Strong understanding of contractual and business risk issues, including indemnities, liability limitations, data protection, and information security
- Proven ability to manage multiple negotiations and prioritise effectively under pressure
- Excellent contract drafting and communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear redlines and bring agreements to closure
- Solid knowledge of data and software licensing, intellectual property, privacy, employment, and commercial contract law
- Strategic thinker with strong business judgment and the ability to act as a trusted legal advisor
- Highly organised, analytical, and capable of managing complex projects across cross‑functional teams
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with global colleagues
- Superior command of written and spoken English
- Fluency in French (written and spoken – highly desirable, role has the option to look after French legal matters)
- Experience working in‑house, particularly within technology or financial services sectors
- Familiarity with information security, network security, or other high‑tech legal environments
- Experience supporting a UK or European subsidiary of a foreign parent company
- Exposure to employment law, compliance, and intellectual property matters
- Ability to operate effectively in a global legal team and across multiple jurisdictions
