We are looking for an experienced and highly hands-on Mechanical Fitter to join an established manufacturing business in Preston. This is a varied workshop-based role where you'll play a key part in the manufacture, modification and maintenance of tooling used within a busy production environment. You'll be working on a range of projects, using your practical engineering skills to manufacture and modify tools, jigs and formers, resolve problems and ensure equipment is ready for production.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fabrication, sheet metal work and mechanical fitting, with excellent MIG welding skills and the ability to work confidently from detailed engineering drawings. You'll be comfortable fabricating complex shapes, carrying out drilling, grinding, bending and press brake work, as well as modifying and maintaining tooling. Experience working with plastics, composites or moulding processes would be advantageous, but most importantly we're looking for someone who is practical, mechanically minded and enjoys finding solutions to engineering problems.

Responsibilities as a Mechanical Fitter:
Manufacture, modify and maintain production tooling and moulds
Manufacture and develop jigs, formers and associated equipment
Carry out sheet metal fabrication and complex shape development
MIG welding, fabrication and finishing
Interpret engineering drawings and work accurately to specifications
Carry out tooling repairs, modifications and preventative maintenance
Support new tooling verification and production trials
Identify and resolve tooling and manufacturing issues
Work closely with engineering, production and other departments
Ensure work is completed to a high standard of quality and safety
Mechanical Fitter Requirements include:
Ideally qualified to NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Discipline.
Strong sheet metal fabrication experience.
Mig welding experience.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
Experience with bending, drilling, grinding and press break operations.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to work well within a team.
