We are recruiting a Senior or Principal Building Structures Engineer for a leading UK infrastructure consultancy.

You will take a key role in the structural design and delivery of infrastructure and Ministry of Justice projects, including prisons and other secure operational facilities.

Depending on your experience, you will either lead the structural delivery of individual projects or provide wider technical and team leadership across several schemes.

  • ## Key responsibilities
  • Lead the production of structural designs, calculations, drawings and technical documentation.
  • Develop technically robust solutions that comply with Structural Eurocodes, Building Regulations and client requirements.
  • Review and check engineering deliverables, taking responsibility for technical quality.
  • Lead and support engineers and technicians working across single and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Manage design quality and programme performance across multiple schemes.
  • Develop solutions for new-build, refurbishment, alteration and strengthening projects.
  • Coordinate with architects, building-services engineers, contractors and other technical disciplines.
  • Undertake site surveys, inspections and technical assessments.
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers and project stakeholders.
  • Manage design risks and support compliance with CDM Regulations.
  • Contribute to bids, fee proposals and work-winning activity.
  • At Principal level, manage project budgets, resources and commercial performance.
  • Mentor and professionally develop junior engineers.
  • Undertake people-management responsibilities where required.
  • ## About you

You will have

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Extensive building-structures design experience.
  • Strong knowledge of steel, concrete, masonry and timber structures.
  • Detailed knowledge of Structural Eurocodes, Building Regulations and design governance.
  • Experience leading engineers and technicians.
  • The ability to produce, check and approve technically robust engineering deliverables.
  • Experience managing quality and programme performance across multiple projects.
  • Familiarity with Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Tedds and relevant three-dimensional design software.
  • Strong client and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Incorporated or Chartered status with an appropriate professional institution.

Principal-level candidates should normally possess Chartered status and demonstrate technical leadership, team management, commercial responsibility and work-winning experience.

Experience involving prisons, courts, government buildings or other secure and operationally sensitive estates would be advantageous.

Candidates must be able to obtain the necessary Ministry of Justice security clearance. xrnqpay
