Depending on your experience, you will either lead the mechanical delivery of individual projects or provide technical leadership across a wider portfolio, supporting multidisciplinary teams and developing more junior engineers.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the design of heating, ventilation, cooling, domestic water, drainage and associated mechanical building-services systems.
- Prepare and check calculations, specifications, drawings, schedules and technical reports.
- Develop projects from initial survey and concept design through detailed design, construction support, commissioning and handover.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, structural, architectural and other technical disciplines.
- Undertake surveys and assessments of existing buildings and infrastructure.
- Develop practical solutions for refurbishment, upgrade and new-build projects.
- Ensure designs comply with Building Regulations, relevant British Standards, CDM requirements and industry guidance.
- Manage design quality, project risks, budgets and programme commitments.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and operational stakeholders.
- Provide construction-stage technical support and respond to design queries.
- Mentor engineers and technicians.
- At Principal level, lead teams, approve technical deliverables, manage resources and contribute to bids and work-winning activities.
About you:
You will have:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience designing mechanical building-services systems.
- Experience working within a consultancy or multidisciplinary design environment.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, mechanical plant, water services and associated controls.
- Experience producing and checking calculations, specifications and design documentation.
- Knowledge of Building Regulations, relevant standards and CDM responsibilities.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit and BIM-led delivery.
- Strong client, stakeholder and project-management skills.
- Incorporated or Chartered status, or demonstrable progress toward professional registration.
- Principal-level candidates should also possess Chartered status or equivalent experience and demonstrate technical leadership, team management, commercial responsibility and client-development capability.
- Experience within prisons, courts, government buildings, defence, healthcare, education or other operationally sensitive environments would be advantageous.
