Pay Rate: £31.48 per hour PAYE / £40.36 - £42.34 per hour Umbrella

The Role

We are currently recruiting for High Level Technicians to join a technical team supporting the Class 701 Aventra fleet at Wimbledon. Reporting to the Shift Production Manager, you will work as part of a small technical team, assisting the Fleet Operator with mechanical and electrical maintenance, detailed fault finding, diagnostics and repairs. You will play a key role in ensuring maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with company processes, procedures and all relevant safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide train systems engineering advice across the vehicle and key systems, including TCMS, HVAC, propulsion, brakes, doors and on-train communications.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for Production and Control Room staff, supporting in-service fault resolution.
  • Assist with detailed fault finding, diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Develop solutions providing both short-term mitigation and long-term resolution.
  • Attend to faulty trains in service, carrying out component replacements and modification work.
  • Support root cause analysis using FRACAS, 8D and PPS methodologies.
  • Assist with updating maintenance instructions, overhaul instructions, processes and procedures to optimise maintenance activities.
  • Liaise with Technical Publications and Central Engineering teams where required.
  • Monitor trains in service using the Orbita remote monitoring system.
  • Download and analyse train data from onboard train data recorders using laptops.
  • Use diagnostic software to identify faults across various train systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, train management and onboard computer systems.
  • Carry out system software updates as required.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant safety procedures and company standards.

Shift Pattern

The role operates on a Panama roster covering both days and nights:

  • 5 Days: 07:00 - 19:00
  • 5 Days Off
  • 4 Nights: 19:00 - 07:00
  • 5 Days Off
  • 2 Days: 07:00 - 19:00
  • 3 Nights: 19:00 - 07:00
  • 4 Days Off

Roster then repeats.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidates will ideally have:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in an electrical discipline - essential.
  • Previous experience within the rail industry - desirable but not essential.
  • Experience using laptops and diagnostic equipment to identify and investigate faults.
  • Ability to interpret and work from maintenance manuals, technical documentation and electrical/mechanical schematics.
  • Proven experience in mechanical or electrical fault finding.
  • Experience carrying out mechanical or electrical repairs.
  • Strong troubleshooting and fault investigation skills, with the ability to gather and analyse technical evidence.
  • A methodical and analytical approach to fault finding and problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
  • A highly self-motivated approach with the ability to work effectively within a small technical team.
