HSB Technical Ltd is a specialist recruiter within the Power & Propulsion, Shipbuilding, Shipping & Energy and Fire & Security sectors. We are looking for an experienced Dynamic Positioning (DP) Engineer to join a well-established marine engineering business providing specialist DP, controls and technical support to vessels worldwide.
This is a highly field-based position suited to an engineer who enjoys international travel, technically challenging fault-finding and working directly on complex vessel control and Dynamic Positioning systems.
Duties and responsibilities of the DP Engineer:
- Travel internationally to vessels, shipyards and offshore locations to provide DP engineering support.
- Diagnose, fault-find, service and repair Dynamic Positioning systems.
- Provide technical support across ICON DP and POSCON systems.
- Carry out DP system upgrades, modifications and installation support.
- Fault-find complex electrical, electronic and control system issues.
- Work with position reference systems and associated sensors.
- Support DP trials, FMEA activities and vessel system testing.
- Commission and test systems following repair, upgrade or installation.
- Work across associated marine control systems including PLCs, propulsion, thrusters, steering and vessel automation.
- Produce accurate technical reports and communicate findings clearly with customers and internal teams.
- Provide remote technical assistance when required.
- Maintain a strong focus on vessel safety, system reliability and minimising operational downtime.
Qualifications and requirements for the DP Engineer:
- Previous experience working with Dynamic Positioning systems is essential.
- Strong electrical/electronic engineering and fault-finding ability.
- Experience with ICON DP systems would be highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of POSCON, position reference systems and vessel sensors would be beneficial.
- Experience with marine automation, PLCs, propulsion or thruster control systems would be advantageous.
- Previous experience as a DP Engineer, Marine Controls Engineer, Automation Engineer, ETO or similar would be considered.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
- Comfortable working independently and solving complex technical problems onboard vessels.
- Strong customer-facing and communication skills.
- Must be willing and able to travel extensively worldwide at short notice.
Package:
- Basic salary of £50,000 - £55,000
