What you'll be doing

  • As a Broadcast Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality live, hybrid and recorded events for the IET.
  • You'll be responsible for ensuring the technical quality, reliability and smooth delivery of broadcasts across both in-house and off-site locations.
  • Working closely with colleagues, clients and third-party suppliers, you'll support events from planning through to delivery.
  • You'll set up, operate and maintain a range of broadcast and AV equipment, ensuring all technical elements work together seamlessly and that clients receive a professional, high-quality service.
  • You'll manage audio, video and streaming workflows during live events, monitor broadcast quality and quickly resolve any technical issues that arise.
  • A key part of the role is working with a variety of stakeholders. You'll build strong relationships with clients, understanding their requirements and translating them into effective technical solutions.
  • You'll also contribute to the continuous improvement of IET Video Services by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment, processes and ways of working.

  • Experience operating professional AV equipment, including broadcast and robotic cameras, vision mixers, audio systems and streaming platforms.
  • Strong understanding of streaming technologies and protocols.
  • Technically minded and solutions-focused, with the ability to troubleshoot issues quickly and effectively during live events.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro and Photoshop, would be highly advantageous.

A little more about the role

  • Operate broadcast and AV equipment, including broadcast and PTZ robotic cameras, audio systems, lighting, vision mixers and streaming solutions.
  • Manage and support virtual event platforms such as Zoom, Teams and Skype TX.
  • Control audio and video feeds, presentation synchronisation and audience interaction elements.
  • Monitor live streams and broadcast outputs to ensure high-quality delivery.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues relating to equipment, connectivity and event operations.
  • Deliver the successful setup, testing and operation of live, hybrid and recorded events across in-house and external venues.
  • Liaise with clients to understand technical and production requirements before and during events.
  • Provide guidance and support to third-party operators and production partners.
  • Record and manage event footage, including ISO recordings where required.
  • Ensure recorded content is securely backed up and stored.
  • Prepare and edit footage for handover to the wider video production team.
  • Support the introduction of new technologies, equipment and operational improvements.
  • Contribute to maintaining high production standards across all IET Video Services activities.

  • Proven experience within broadcast engineering, live streaming, live events or AV production.
  • Strong technical understanding of broadcast, streaming and event production workflows.
  • Experience operating professional cameras, vision mixers, audio systems, lighting rigs and streaming encoders.
  • Good working knowledge of streaming technologies and protocols, including RTMP, WebRTC, SRT, NDI, TCP/IP, and FTP.
  • Experience supporting and managing virtual and hybrid event platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Skype TX.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly in live event environments.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging broadcast, AV and streaming technologies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
