Internal Audit is a new independent function set up within the organisation as a service to the Board, Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee and all levels of management. The Head of Internal Audit is responsible and accountable for effective review of risk management, governance, and control throughout the organisation’s activities.

Its Mission is a flexible “technology led – technology enabled” company-wide internal audit and assurance capability that supports the business to manage risk, improve governance, control, add value in the process and ultimately help to serve our clients.

Its primary goals are:

  • To provide the Board and Audit Risk and Compliance Committee with independent and objective assurance over the organisations management of risk, control, and governance.
  • To assess and where appropriate, facilitate the Risk Management methods and ensure that risks are being effectively identified, assessed and managed by the business.
  • To help management improve the organisation’s processes, controls and operations through risk and control advice, consulting, and support.

Alongside the need to set up best practice internal audit, the incumbent and their team will be influential in developing education and awareness of the nature, purpose and use of risk management and internal control to help management achieve their goals.

The role will also require close collaboration with established second line functions including, Risk and Compliance, Technical Quality and Governance (TQ&G), Legal, Product Internal Audit Teams, and functions which conduct their own internal assessments such as Information Security.

The Head of Group Internal Audit reports functionally to the Chair of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee and administratively to the Chief Financial Officer and a member of the company leadership group. The role and team will have unfettered access to Executive Management, staff, company systems and information in the performance of its duties.

Qualified professional preferably CIA (Certified Internal Auditor or equivalent) or recognised audit/accounting qualification (FCA, ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CISA), qualified by experience, or industry/sector knowledge. Exposure to all levels of management including Board level and Audit Committees and external auditors. Proven ability to build enduring relationships across the business. Business and market focused link to risk and control issues. Internal Audit experience, at head of department level or at least a senior “no 2” position ready for a first head of role. Demonstrate thorough understanding of risk and control. Able to advise senior and top management on strategic risks such as Cyber security, ESG, etc. Able to establish direction and embrace necessary change. Ability to build, lead and motivate experienced and qualified staff.
