A Tier 1 civil engineering contractor is looking to appoint a Managing Quantity Surveyor following the successful award of new work valued at approximately £100M per annum.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Senior Quantity Surveyor or experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor who wants genuine career progression. With continued growth across the business, the successful candidate will initially manage a £30M workstream and a team of five Quantity Surveyors, with a clear opportunity to progress into a Commercial Manager position within 12 months.
This is not simply a management position it is an opportunity to take ownership of a significant commercial function and build towards overall commercial responsibility.
The Role
Initially reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of a £30M workstream, leading and developing a team of five Quantity Surveyors.
The project portfolio consists of major utility and infrastructure schemes, administered under NEC contracts. You will work closely with Project Managers and operational teams to ensure strong commercial control and successful project delivery.
Key responsibilities will include:
Managing and developing a team of five Quantity Surveyors
Taking commercial ownership of a £30M workstream
Supporting the Commercial Manager with the development of the commercial function
Working towards progression into a Commercial Manager role
Cost forecasting and financial reporting
CVR and commercial performance management
Value engineering and cost optimisation
Subcontract procurement and management
Change management and commercial entitlement
Managing and developing commercial processes
Reviewing and managing contractual and commercial notices
Working collaboratively with clients and subcontractors
Producing accurate commercial and client reporting
Working closely with Project Managers to maximise commercial performance
Ensuring compliance with NEC contract requirements

About You
You will ideally be an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor, Managing Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor looking to progress your career within civil engineering, infrastructure or utilities.
You will have:
A BSc degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification
Strong experience working within UK civil engineering, infrastructure or utilities
Strong NEC contract knowledge and experience
Proven commercial management and cost control experience
Experience with CVRs, forecasting, change management and subcontract procurement
The ability to manage and develop junior commercial staff
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
A stable career history with a clear desire to progress
