Plant Manager – What the Job Actually Is You are responsible for running the whole manufacturing site and making sure it performs properly.
You will oversee:
Production / Manufacturing
Health & Safety
Quality
Maintenance & Engineering
Supply Chain and Planning
Inventory / stock
HR and people management
Continuous Improvement
Site costs and budgets
What You'll Be Responsible For Run the factory
Make sure production runs safely, efficiently and on time.
Make sure the site hits its production, quality and cost targets.
Deal with problems quickly when performance isn't where it needs to be.
Lead the people
Manage and develop the senior management team.
Make sure managers are leading their teams effectively.
Motivate people and create a good working culture.
Develop employees and identify future managers/successors.
Work with employee representatives/works councils.
Health, Safety & Quality
Make sure the site operates safely and follows all relevant requirements.
Ensure products meet the required quality standards.
Lead by example when it comes to safety and quality.
Improve the operation
Look for ways to make production quicker, better and more cost-effective.
Reduce waste and improve productivity.
Use Lean / Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement methods to solve problems.
Make sure machinery and equipment are properly maintained.
Manage supply chain and stock
Make sure the factory has the right materials at the right time.
Manage production planning and capacity.
Keep inventory under control and reduce old/slow-moving stock.
Manage the numbers
Own the plant budget.
Understand what is driving costs and performance.
Work closely with Finance and Sales.
Help the business achieve its sales, margin and EBITDA targets.
Take action when the numbers aren't where they should be.
