The Head of Digital is responsible for defining, governing, and delivering the institution’s enterprise-wide digital strategy across core banking platforms, customer-facing applications, investment and wealth management systems, and digital data infrastructure. The role has full accountability for end-to-end digital delivery, including programme and project management, ensuring that complex initiatives are executed on time, on budget, and in line with strategic, regulatory, and commercial objectives. The role partners closely with executive management, investment leadership, and control functions to ensure that digital transformation initiatives are prioritised, governed, and delivered with strong execution discipline, supporting scalable growth, investment performance, and client experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Digital Strategy & Enterprise Transformation: Define and own the enterprise digital vision and multi-year transformation roadmap across core banking, digital channels, and investment platforms. Translate strategic objectives into clearly scoped, prioritised, and sequenced digital programmes. Ensure digital initiatives directly support revenue growth, AUM expansion, cost efficiency, and investment outcomes. Own enterprise-level digital programme and project management across all digital initiatives. Establish and lead a central digital PMO covering governance, prioritisation, budgeting, resourcing, risk management, and reporting. Ensure disciplined delivery using appropriate methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid), tailored to regulatory and business requirements. Track benefits realisation, milestones, dependencies, and execution risks across all digital programmes.
- Core Banking Platforms: Oversee the digital enablement and modernisation of core banking systems, including deposits, lending, payments, general ledger, treasury, and interfaces to custody and settlement platforms. Drive platform integration and API-led architectures linking core systems with digital channels and investment platforms. Ensure operational resilience, scalability, and regulatory compliance of core platforms.
- Customer-Facing Applications & Digital Channels: Own all customer-facing digital applications including mobile banking, online banking, investor portals, and advisor platforms. Lead end-to-end digitisation of onboarding, KYC, suitability, transaction execution, reporting, and client servicing journeys. Ensure consistent UX, security, and performance across all client segments.
- Investment, Asset & Wealth Platforms: Oversee digital platforms supporting investment management, asset management, private markets, and wealth mandates. Digitise front-to-back investment lifecycles including origination, due diligence, execution, portfolio monitoring, valuation, performance, and exits. Ensure seamless integration with core banking, custody, treasury, and client reporting systems.
- Data, Analytics & Decision Enablement: Establish a unified data and analytics framework spanning client, banking, and investment data. Enable analytics-driven decision-making for investment risk, portfolio performance, client personalisation, and revenue optimisation. Ensure strong data governance, lineage, and regulatory reporting capabilities.
- Governance, Risk & Regulatory Alignment: Embed regulatory, risk, AML, KYC, suitability, and cybersecurity controls into all digital programmes and project delivery. Ensure strong change-management, model risk, and third-party risk controls across digital initiatives. Maintain effective oversight of vendors, system integrators, and delivery partners.
- Leadership & Stakeholder Management: Build and lead multidisciplinary teams across digital product, architecture, data, UX, engineering, and PMO functions. Act as a senior advisor to the executive committee, investment committees, and board on digital execution and delivery risk. Coordinate closely with CIO, COO, CRO, CCO, CFO, and Heads of Banking, Investment, and Wealth.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience: 15+ years in digital transformation, technology delivery, or programme leadership within banking, investment management, or wealth management. Proven ownership of large-scale digital programmes and PMO functions in regulated environments. Experience overseeing core banking platforms, digital channels, and investment systems.
- Skills & Expertise: Strong programme and project management capability, including budgeting, dependency management, and benefits tracking. Deep understanding of core banking, digital channels, and investment platforms. Strong governance mindset with the ability to manage delivery risk in complex, regulated environments. Commercial and investment-aware approach linking delivery outcomes to P&L, AUM, and performance.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Technology, Engineering, or related discipline. MBA, CFA, PMP, PRINCE2, SAFe, or equivalent certifications are an advantage.
- Personal Attributes: Execution-focused digital leader, structured, decisive, and accountable, credible partner to senior executives, investors, and regulators.
