Senior Quantity Surveyor – Highways & Street Lighting A leading multi-disciplined civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team in Hertfordshire.
The role will support the commercial management of a major highways and street lighting contract , providing an excellent opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor with experience in highways, highways maintenance, street lighting, civil engineering or infrastructure .
You will work closely with the Project Manager, Commercial Manager and wider operational team, taking responsibility for the commercial performance of the contract and ensuring works are delivered efficiently and profitably.
The Role As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for:
Managing the commercial and financial performance of highways and street lighting works
Managing project costs, budgets, forecasts and financial reporting
Preparing and reviewing applications for payment
Managing subcontractor accounts, valuations and payments
Assessing variations, compensation events and commercial change
Monitoring project expenditure and identifying commercial risks and opportunities
Preparing cost forecasts and maintaining accurate financial records
Managing procurement and the commercial administration of subcontract packages
Reviewing contractual obligations and ensuring commercial compliance
Preparing and agreeing final accounts
Supporting commercial negotiations with clients and supply chain partners
Working closely with operational teams to maximise commercial performance
Providing commercial advice to the project team
Mentoring and supporting Quantity Surveyors and junior commercial staff
About You The successful candidate will ideally have experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor within highways, highways maintenance, street lighting, civil engineering, infrastructure or construction .
You should have:
Proven experience in a Quantity Surveying or Commercial role
Experience working on highways, highways maintenance, street lighting or civil engineering projects
Good knowledge of construction contracts and commercial management
Experience managing subcontractors and supply chain accounts
Strong understanding of cost control, forecasting, variations and final accounts
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
The ability to work independently and as part of a wider project team
A relevant degree or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline is desirable
RICS, CIOB or ICES membership/qualification would be advantageous
