A leading Bank in London is recruiting a Senior Compliance Advisor to join the Compliance team based in London. This senior role will be the lead for Business Compliance activities across designated Banking business areas within the Branch.
Responsibilities include developing and implementing local compliance policies and procedures, and coordinating the monitoring of compliance support for these businesses, in line with the organization's global compliance strategy and the UK Head of Compliance's direction. The successful candidate will establish strong working relationships with internal compliance teams, the designated Banking businesses and their management, and Head Office Compliance staff.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop and Maintain Compliance Frameworks: Design, implement, and update clear and effective compliance policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with UK regulatory requirements, evolving market practices, and global compliance directives. Provide critical input to the maintenance of the Compliance Internal Procedures Manual.
- Regulatory Advisory & Risk Management: Deliver timely and pragmatic compliance advice to business stakeholders, conduct thorough risk assessments for new initiatives and products, and act as a liaison with regulatory bodies, coordinating responses to inquiries.
- Drive Training & Awareness: Develop and deliver targeted compliance training programs (including induction and thematic sessions) to foster a strong culture of compliance and enhance awareness of applicable rules and best practices across the designated businesses.
- Proactive Monitoring & Assurance: Collaborate with the Compliance Controls team to establish and execute a comprehensive Compliance Monitoring Programme and annual Compliance Risk Assessment. Identify and report on control weaknesses, driving the implementation of corrective actions.
- Business Engagement & Reviews: Partner with business units on risk-based reviews, identify compliance gaps, and ensure prompt resolution of findings. Actively participate in relevant internal and external committees and steering groups.
- Conflict Management & Conduct: Work collaboratively to ensure potential conflicts are identified, recorded, and managed effectively. Escalate conduct breaches and regulatory issues promptly to senior management and relevant teams.
- Reporting & MI: Support the production of accurate and timely management information for routine compliance reports to business leadership and senior compliance management.
- Global Collaboration: Foster strong working relationships with Head Office Compliance teams, promoting consistent application of standards and addressing cross-border business considerations. Monitor service level agreements and escalate any potential issues.
- Team Collaboration: Cultivate effective working relationships within the broader Compliance team, supporting colleagues and contributing to the consistent application of standards across the UK branch. Take ownership of your work and support team objectives.
- Audit & Ad Hoc Support: Ensure timely clearance of all audit points attributed to your area of responsibility. Provide ad hoc project support to senior management as required.
Key Skills & Experience:
- In-depth technical knowledge of key compliance regimes for private side businesses, including UK and EU regulations (e.g., MAR, MiFID II, EMIR) and relevant global frameworks (e.g., FATCA, City Code, Competition Law, Dodd-Frank).
- Significant experience as a business compliance partner within an investment banking environment, with a proven track record managing compliance for diverse front-office business lines, products, and particularly private side activities.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly and concisely to all levels of the organization and influence stakeholders.
- Strong analytical capabilities, sound judgment, and a demonstrated ability to identify issues, assess risks, and devise effective solutions under pressure.
- Ability to prioritize effectively, adapt quickly to evolving demands, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- A relevant professional qualification (legal, accounting, compliance) is highly desirable.
