We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to support the General Counsel (GC) in developing and implementing global legal processes and procedures. This role ensures governance, compliance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness across our operations while maintaining the highest standards of legal integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic legal advice on various matters, including labour law, commercial contracts, and trade sanctions.
  • Ensure trade sanctions policies and processes are up-to-date and provide guidance to various business teams.
  • Support KYC clearances and manage the Group’s legal policies portfolio, ensuring relevance and compliance.
  • Act as Group Data Protection Officer (DPO).
  • Oversee the Group’s trademarks portfolio.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal agreements while simplifying complex legal language for business teams.
  • Assess legal risks, governance frameworks, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders on complex legal matters.
  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with the latest regulatory updates.
  • Oversee and guide paralegal(s) where required.
  • Provide regular legal and compliance updates to senior management.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • UK-qualified lawyer with at least 5+ years post-qualification experience (PQE).
  • Strong expertise in trade sanctions laws and compliance frameworks (e.g., UK Bribery Act, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act).
  • Extensive experience as an in-house legal counsel within an international corporate environment is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to lead commercial contract negotiations and partner with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across business functions.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the shipping, LNG, energy or commodities industry is an advantage.
