Job Description
Planning Manager – Renewable Energy Project
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Planning Manager to lead the design and build of a major new substation in Suffolk, supporting a significant renewable energy project in the Southern North Sea. This project plays a crucial role in Britain's journey toward Net Zero by connecting a major offshore wind farm to the National Grid.
The Role:
Reporting to the Project Director, the Planning Manager will oversee all planning activities for the project, including:
- Managing planning processes for significant earthworks, new road infrastructure, reinforced concrete works, and steel-framed superstructures.
- Ensuring health, safety, and environmental requirements are built into the programme, including documentation, approvals, and competency checks.
- Developing clear construction stage diagrams and sequences to support safe and efficient project delivery.
- Identifying risks, contributing to the risk and opportunity register, and building risk allowances into project plans.
- Collaborating with the estimating and temporary works teams to ensure accurate planning of temporary works and site logistics.
- Evaluating and challenging suppliers’ and subcontractors’ methodologies and schedules.
About You:
The ideal candidate will have:
- A degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in planning for civil engineering or construction projects.
- Proficiency in planning software and tools such as Primavera P6, CAD, PowerPoint, and 4Projects.
- Membership of a professional body such as ICE or APM (desirable).
Project Timeline:
The project is currently in the design and environmental consent phase, with construction set to begin in spring next year and completion scheduled for December 2027.
