Opportunistic Credit Investment Professional - London

We are working with an exciting credit investment firm seeking to add an Investment Analyst to its London-based team. The firm is backed by a strong and longstanding institutional investor base and has built an experienced investment team with a broad mandate across credit markets.

The search is primarily focused at VP to Director level, although there is flexibility to consider particularly strong candidates with slightly more or less experience.

The opportunity

The successful candidate will play an integral role in the investment process, researching and evaluating opportunities across high yield, stressed, distressed and special situations credit. The position offers significant exposure to senior decision-makers and requires an investor capable of developing differentiated views through detailed fundamental work.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Originate and evaluate credit investment opportunities through detailed fundamental analysis, forming independent views on businesses, industries and individual securities
• Analyse capital structures and relative value across performing and stressed situations, with particular consideration given to downside scenarios, recovery values and overall risk/reward
• Develop detailed financial models incorporating company, sector and macroeconomic assumptions, alongside analysis of leverage, liquidity, covenants and refinancing requirements
• Maintain an active view on existing portfolio positions, assessing new company and market developments and identifying changes to the original investment thesis
• Conduct diligence with management teams and engage with advisers and restructuring counterparties where relevant to more complex or event-driven situations
• Present investment recommendations to senior members of the team and defend underlying assumptions, valuation work and investment conclusions as part of a highly collaborative investment process

Candidate profile

The fund is open to candidates from several backgrounds, including existing buy-side credit investors, as well as professionals from restructuring advisory or leveraged finance looking to transition into a direct investing position.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

• Strong fundamental and financial analysis skills, with the ability to assess credit quality, valuation and positioning within the capital structure
• Relevant exposure to credit markets, whether across performing HY, leveraged credit, stressed/distressed situations, special situations etc
• An independent, first-principles approach to investing and the ability to articulate and defend investment views with conviction
• The ability to operate effectively within a lean investment team where analytical rigour, intellectual curiosity and quality of judgement are highly valued
• Familiarity with leveraged capital structures, credit documentation and/or restructuring processes, which would be particularly valuable for the role
