We are presently advising a leading, high-performing hedge fund with a range of strategies across asset classes to identify a senior Emerging Markets Credit Portfolio Manager for their London team. The fund has experienced meaningful AUM growth in recent years and is building out its investment capabilities with clear ambition. This hire carries genuine weight with the successful candidate having meaningful autonomy and will play a leading role in helping to scale the London business.
What the role involves:
- Leadership of an EM credit strategy, investing across corporates, quasi-sovereigns and sovereigns across both hard and local currency instruments, from investment grade through to distressed situations, with full discretion over portfolio construction, position sizing and risk management
- Invest across the full EM credit universe including bonds, loans and CDS, with coverage across LATAM, CEEMEA and/or APAC, actively managing both long and short positions across the credit cycle
- Develop and defend independent credit views through rigorous relative value and fundamental analysis, with a clear framework for assessing issuer quality, capital structure, and pricing across a range of corporate and sovereign situations
- Monitor and integrate sovereign, macro, regulatory and idiosyncratic developments into credit positioning, maintaining a well-reasoned view on risk-reward across geographies and instrument types
- Build and maintain detailed financial models incorporating issuer-level, sector, sovereign and macro inputs relevant to target markets
- Maintain an active dialogue with management teams, sell-side desks, local market participants and advisors to source and rigorously test investment theses
- Contribute directly to the firm's fundraising initiatives, supporting LP engagement and playing a meaningful role in the continued scaling of the business alongside senior leadership
Who we are looking for:
- A senior EM credit investor with a clear and demonstrable track record running an EM credit book, spanning corporates and/or sovereigns across APAC, LATAM, and/or CEEMEA
- Broad instrument-level experience across hard and local currency bonds, loans and CDS, with comfort operating across the full credit spectrum from investment grade through to distressed
- Strong fundamental analytical foundations including detailed financial modelling, credit documentation analysis and capital structure assessment across a range of EM issuer types
- Accustomed to operating with significant autonomy and conviction
- Some exposure to or appetite for LP-facing activity and fundraising, with the credibility and communication skills to represent the fund effectively to institutional investors
- Established networks across EM corporates, sovereigns, sell-side desks and local market contacts across one or more of LATAM, CEEMEA and/or APAC viewed favourably
