The Strategic Projects Manager – Supply Operations is responsible for leading the design and execution of strategic operational initiatives within the whisky category across Scotland, with additional scope supporting Ireland. This role oversees projects across all Spirit Supply sites within the UK network and supports long-term operational goals by delivering safe, compliant, and efficient solutions that enhance processes and performance. The position ensures strong standards in safety, quality, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, business continuity, and employee development, in line with industry regulations such as COMAH and HMRC. This role acts as a subject matter expert within its function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a Safety-First mindset aligned with organizational standards
  • Ensure compliance with all Customs & Excise (C&E) requirements
  • Identify and implement industry best practices within maturation operations
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using structured operational frameworks
  • Maintain group quality standards
  • Design and deliver safe and compliant operational projects
  • Identify and scope strategic initiatives to improve safety, cost, and quality
  • Collaborate with site leads to define and develop project designs
  • Engage key stakeholders (e.g., Real Estate, Finance, Marketing) to ensure alignment with business needs
  • Take into account business sensitivities when defining project scope
  • Work confidentially with internal teams during project development
  • Lead project implementation from concept to completion
  • Partner with Engineering and category teams to deliver projects on time and in full (OTIF)
  • Develop and manage project timelines to ensure delivery within budget
  • Establish and manage project and capital budgets
  • Monitor project progress, managing risks and opportunities
  • Work cross-functionally with stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes
  • Be available to travel across supply sites as required

Educational Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Operations, Business Management, Engineering, or a related discipline, with willingness to continue developing professionally

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in FMCG within Operations or Supply Chain at a managerial level
  • Background in industries such as spirits, beverages, chemicals, water, or warehousing is preferred
  • Proven track record in delivering continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience with Lean methodologies is an advantage
  • Strong experience leading change or transformation programs
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (experience with DRAMS, SAP, or EMCS is a plus)
  • Experience leading teams and managing stakeholders
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills across all levels
  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
  • Comfortable challenging existing ways of working and identifying more efficient approaches
