The Lead Engineer is CTI’s elite on-site technical resource, a hands-on expert who knows how to build, commission, and finish systems to perfection. You are as comfortable leading a team on a construction site as you are tuning DSPs, finalising code, or walking a client through their system on handover day. You own every detail of delivery, mechanical, electrical, and software ensuring that what’s been engineered and pre-built off-site performs flawlessly in the real world. You take pride in doing things properly, leading by example, and finishing with precision, professionalism, and pride.
Key Responsibilities:
- Site Leadership: Take responsibility for day-to-day site activity, directing technicians, assigning tasks, and ensuring safe, efficient progress in line with CTI’s engineering standards and construction requirements.
- System Integration: Install, wire, and configure complete AV systems, following detailed schematics, rack elevations, and network layouts. Maintain clean, organised, and methodical installations that meet CTI’s quality benchmarks.
- Commissioning & Final Execution: Deploy and verify configurations, test functionality, tune DSPs, balance audio, align video, calibrate displays, and refine control systems until the system performs exactly to design intent.
- Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve on-site challenges calmly and efficiently whether mechanical, electrical, or software-related. You own problems end-to-end, ensuring systems leave site stable, reliable, and client ready.
- Client Delivery: Be the technical face of CTI during commissioning and handover. Deliver systems that look professional, work beautifully, and are intuitive for clients to operate.
- System Verification: Perform and document complete system testing, ensuring signal flow, control logic, and performance align with the design brief and CTI standards.
- Training & Handover: Provide concise, practical training to end users and technical staff, ensuring clients understand operation and maintenance. Prepare final as-built documentation, system backups, and sign-off reports.
- Quality & Ownership: Inspect all installation work, verify terminations, label completeness, rack dressing, and documentation before sign-off. You don’t leave until it’s right technically, visually, and operationally.
- Health & Safety Leadership: Lead by example on-site, maintaining full compliance with safety policies and risk assessments, and ensuring all team members work safely and professionally.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Feed real-world insights back to design, engineering, and service teams to improve processes and documentation for future projects.
- Maintain a Flexible Work Approach: Be adaptable with working hours and site requirements to meet project deadlines without compromising quality.
- Follow CTI’s Quality Standards: Ensure all responsibilities align with CTI’s ISO 9001 quality procedures.
- It’s Not Done Until It’s Done: See installations through to absolute completion, including system sign-offs, return of any unused materials, final quality assurance checks, and smooth handover to the service department.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Technical Breadth: Deep working knowledge across AV, UC, and broadcast systems including Crestron, Q-SYS, Biamp, Extron, Shure, Ross, Disguise, and similar platforms.
- Commissioning Proficiency: Skilled in DSP tuning, control code deployment, video calibration, and network configuration (VLAN, Dante, AES67, NDI).
- Installation Discipline: Expert-level mechanical and electrical installation skills, including cable management, signal integrity, and system build quality.
- Problem Solving: Methodical fault-finding across hardware, software, and networks.
- Documentation: Produce accurate commissioning records, as-built drawings, backups, and verification checklists.
- Certifications preferred: CTS, CTS-I, ECS, SSSTS, IPAF, PASMA.

- A supportive and team-oriented mindset: Be a mentor and collaborator, assisting colleagues and helping to develop less experienced team members.
- Clear and confident communication: Engage proactively with team members, clients, and contractors, ensuring alignment and clarity.
- Professionalism on-site: Maintain a positive attitude, be approachable, and ensure clients and contractors see CTI as a trusted and professional partner.
- Problem-solving under pressure: Approach on-site challenges with a calm and solutions-focused attitude, keeping projects on track.
