The Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) is the Army’s national charity, supporting soldiers, veterans, and their immediate families in times of need. Founded in 1944, our purpose is to provide a lifetime of support to serving soldiers, former soldiers, and their families when they are in need, ensuring they can avoid hardship and enjoy independence and dignity.

This Events Assistant role is a fantastic opportunity to work within an excellent team in our office in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, supporting, planning and delivering fundraising events; developing and increasing our supporter base; engaging with stakeholders and providing support to our local network of volunteers.

The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, be well organised, and have an easy yet confident manner. Working as part of a small regional team, they will be expected to collaborate with local corporate entities, civic administrations, high net worth individuals, local trusts, and charitable organisations, as well as with Army and Army Cadet Force units.

They will have a strong administrative foundation, coupled with a determination to succeed in this varied and challenging position. Ability to be flexible with working patterns. A driving license is essential. Be able to work on own initiative and as part of a team. Possess effective communication/presentation skills, with strong interpersonal skills. Literate, numerate with good office practice experience. IT literate with an understanding Microsoft 365 (including MS Copilot) is highly desirable; previous experience with a fundraising CRM system is advantageous. An understanding of the British Army and the military charity sector is desirable. A strong empathy with the charity’s cause and beneficiaries.

What We Offer

The starting salary is £29,879. After a probationary period of 6 months, the successful candidate will benefit from the Charity’s full range of employment benefits including an income protection scheme and an employer contribution pension. There will also be opportunities to participate in key Charity events and activities with a TOIL scheme in place. This is a full-time post for 35 hours per week, on a permanent contract based at the Charity’s office in Catterick Garrison. The Charity currently operates a minimum of 2 days in the office.
