Armed Forces Outreach Service – Armed Forces Outreach Worker

An opportunity has arisen for the role of an Armed Forces Outreach Worker, employed by Gateshead Council, to provide a service to the Armed Forces Community in Gateshead as part of a regional Armed Forces Outreach Service operating in Newcastle and Durham.

The Armed Forces Outreach Service is an award-winning service that provides support, advice, and signposting to the Armed Forces Community on issues such as housing, debt advice, rent and council tax arrears, and assistance with funding for essentials, training, or employment.

We are seeking someone with an understanding of the current issues facing veterans, either through experience serving in the Armed Forces or working with the Armed Forces. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the re-settlement process for veterans, data protection, confidentiality, equality, and diversity, and how to apply these principles in the workplace.

Essential requirements include 5 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade 9-4/A-C (including Maths and English), or relevant experience with evidence of continual professional development, and a willingness to undertake additional training. Proficiency in ICT, including Microsoft Office, and experience with maintaining accurate records, are also required.

Other essential skills include excellent organisational and time management, the ability to work on your own initiative, effective communication methods, and the ability to empathise and support others.

The role involves working 22 hours 12 minutes over 3 days, with a mixture of remote homeworking and office time. When applying, please consider the job profile and provide examples of how you meet the criteria.
