Lecturer in Forestry in Ambleside

Salary - £38,784 with incremental progression to £43,482.

We are seeking to recruit a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join the Institute of Science and Environment as a Lecturer supporting the delivery of our Forestry programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to nationally significant programmes within a university renowned for forestry and conservation education. The National School of Forestry, situated within the Institute of Science and Environment, has been delivering applied professional forestry courses for over 50 years and has a growing portfolio of research and knowledge exchange projects with colleagues in the wider Institute.

We deliver forestry courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as apprenticeships in forestry (Professional Forester at Level 6 and Forestry Works Manager at Level 4). We have strong links to the forestry sector and associated professional bodies. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with recent practical experience of forestry or woodland operations management and with strong sector links. This could be an opportunity for an industry professional looking for a career change or a new challenge to share their experience and skills with our students in either a full-time or part-time role.

The post holder will join the delivery of our existing programmes, particularly our apprenticeship programmes, and contribute to the design and delivery of future planned developments, making the most of the opportunities offered by our location at the University’s campuses. You will be expected to actively engage with professional research/knowledge exchange and scholarship to support teaching activities and extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship and research to teaching.

As well as the requisite academic and technical skills, the post holder will be required to evidence their ability to work as part of a team demonstrating skills in project and time management and a passion for teaching and learning. Although desirable, prior experience of teaching in higher education is not essential. For those new to HE teaching, the University offers a PgC in Learning and Teaching for Higher Education.

The Institute of Science and Environment is split across two sites, Ambleside and Carlisle, to suit the academic portfolio and delivery needs of our programmes. The academic portfolio provides a range of undergraduate programmes including Forest Management, Woodland Ecology and Conservation, Outdoor Leadership, Outdoor Education, Geography, and a range of Conservation programmes at our Ambleside Campus and Biomedical Science, Chemistry and Zoology at our Carlisle Campus. Additionally, we have a developing postgraduate taught provision and a growing postgraduate research community.
