The successful applicant will lead the management and continuous improvement of the firm's business applications portfolio, ensuring system performance, integration, and alignment with the firm's strategic and security objectives.
The role will actively engage with Partners, fee earners, and business support teams to identify, prioritise, and co-design solutions that deliver measurable business value and align with the firm's strategic objectives. Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the development and implementation of a Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including a Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC) aligned to OWASP ASVS.
- Balancing operational support, releases, and project delivery.
- Leading the planning and continuous improvement of the firm's application landscape, including in-house development and off-the-shelf software that increases efficiencies across the firm.
- Supporting the firm's migration of systems to Microsoft Azure, ensuring application compatibility, security, and performance optimisation.
- Collaborating with the Infrastructure & Security Manager on dependencies between application and infrastructure layers.
- Contributing to the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), ensuring accuracy of application assets and interdependencies (including SBOMs).
- Continuously monitoring application performance, usage metrics, and user feedback to identify improvement opportunities.
Risk & Compliance
- Ensuring compliance with security, data protection, and industry standards.
- Working with Infrastructure to ensure all applications meet the firm's security standards and compliance requirements, including enforcing proper access controls and software patching to protect sensitive data.
- Participating in risk assessments (e.g., Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO27001) and remediation activities related to application security and operational resilience.
Reporting & Communication
- Providing clear communication and reporting on progress, incidents, and releases to stakeholders, highlighting how developments support the firm's operational and strategic goals.
- Providing regular reporting to the Head of Technology on application performance, risk status, and strategic progress.
Skills Required
- Proficient in SQL, C#, Python, Java, HTML/CSS, and related development frameworks.
- Understanding of API integration, data modelling, and application performance tuning.
- Strong project management skills are essential for implementing new systems or major upgrades.
- Experience managing software lifecycle tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, ManageEngine Projects).
- Awareness of cloud platforms (Azure essential) and secure development practices.
- Experienced in agile and waterfall methodologies.
- Skilled in scope/effort management, risk assessment, and stakeholder communication.
