Position Summary

Temporary Full-Time Appendix D Support Staff, replacement contract position (September 14, 2026, to December 21, 2026)

The Technologist, Welding, provides assistance to faculty by overseeing the use of facilities, including developing instructional plans to demonstrate practical skills based on established learning objectives and completing remedial instruction for students who require further assistance in mastering practical skills. The incumbent will also be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of a variety of machines and equipment, and for providing technical support for complex matters.

Successful candidates must be available to work on-site five days a week, Monday to Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at Conestoga’s Cambridge campus, located at 850 Fountain St. S.

Responsibilities

Instructional support

  • Demonstrate practical welding techniques and safe equipment operation to students
  • Provide remedial instruction and support to students requiring assistance in developing practical skills
  • Develop demonstration plans aligned with course learning objectives
  • Contribute input on course content and program setup

Team support

  • Provide guidance and direction to part‑time staff and student workers within the shop
  • Provide guidance and orientation to new faculty

Shop operations

  • Maintain welding and fabrication shop facilities, equipment, and supplies
  • Evaluate equipment and supply needs and prepare purchase requisitions in accordance with College policies
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels for tools, equipment, and materials

Qualifications

  • Licensed journeyperson with a valid Certificate of Qualification in the Welder (456A) trade or a three‑year diploma in Welding Engineering Technology
  • Minimum five years of relevant practical technical experience is required
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and effectively to students
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership, problem‑solving, and teamwork abilities
