Conekt Legal is partnering with one of the world's largest and most genuinely global law firms to appoint a senior data privacy lawyer into its Office of the General Counsel.
Are you a privacy lawyer who wants a truly global remit and the chance to lead a compliance programme as part of their global in-house legal team? This is a rare in-house opportunity at the heart of a firm that operates across more than 45 countries. You won't be looking after one jurisdiction or one client portfolio. You'll own the firm's global data privacy compliance programme end to end, advising member firms and entities worldwide on data privacy and data protection. For a privacy specialist who is tired of working in a single-market silo, the sheer breadth here is hard to replicate anywhere else.
It's also a role with genuine seniority and visibility. You'll manage a team of junior lawyers, chair the firm's Global Data Privacy Working Group of experts spread across multiple jurisdictions, and advise senior management directly on residual risk. This is a seat at the table on the issues that matter: data governance, professional secrecy, breach response - not a back-office compliance function.
The role also sits at the front edge of where the profession is heading. A significant part of the mandate is AI, reviewing vendor terms through a privacy and professional-secrecy lens, shaping the firm's AI policies, drafting the contractual guardrails that govern how firm data can be used in AI tools, and running DPIAs on new use cases. If you want to be the person defining how a global firm uses AI responsibly rather than reading about it, this is that role.
The Candidate:
- Qualified Solicitor - UK/NI/England & Wales/ROI (or another common law jurisdiction)
- 10+ years PQE with deep expertise and knowledge of data privacy and GDPR
- Experience of liaising with senior stakeholders and creating a culture of compliance to make privacy land at every level within an organisation
- Ability and previous experience of translating technical points into clear, pragmatic and commercially minded advice
- Excellent attention to detail with strong drafting skills
- Able to deal with a busy workload and manage tight deadlines
- Able to work effectively as part of a cohesive team
