This role offers broad exposure across the underwriting portfolio and significant interaction with underwriting, actuarial, catastrophe analytics, exposure management, risk management, claims, Legal, brokers, reinsurers, and third‑party capital providers. The successful candidate will play an important role in evaluating portfolio impacts, supporting outward placement strategy, and helping ensure Conduit Re maintains an effective and responsive outward reinsurance framework aligned to the company’s strategic and risk management objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Ceded and underwriting leadership team throughout the annual business planning cycle, particularly in relation to the outward reinsurance strategy and placement programme.
  • Work closely with underwriting, exposure management, actuarial, catastrophe analytics, and risk management teams to support the understanding and management of exposures, accumulations, and portfolio balance.
  • Evaluate potential new transactions and assess their impact on the overall underwriting portfolio.
  • Support the structuring and evaluation of outward reinsurance arrangements, including traditional reinsurance solutions, parametric products, and index‑linked structures.
  • Assist with the preparation and coordination of outward reinsurance submissions, disclosures, and renewal documentation.
  • Support the pricing and evaluation of reinsurance coverage, including premium allocation analysis across lines of business.
  • Assist in the review and negotiation of renewal terms and support the preparation and issuance of contract wordings in collaboration with internal stakeholders, including Legal.
  • Work closely with the claims team to support the identification and optimisation of outward recoveries and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Support the Capital Modelling Actuary in modelling proposed and actual outward reinsurance portfolios in support of business planning and portfolio analysis activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with brokers, reinsurers, and third‑party capital providers to support effective market engagement and long‑term partnerships.
  • Monitor external market conditions, including inflation, catastrophe activity, and geopolitical developments, and assess the potential impact on the underwriting portfolio.
  • Support the Head of Ceded in maintaining an outward reinsurance programme aligned to the company’s risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor aggregate exposures and support compliance with applicable regulatory capital requirements, including Solvency II considerations.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting and reinsurance processes, systems, tools, and operational efficiencies across the business.
  • Collaborate effectively with wider Conduit functions, particularly where underwriting and reinsurance activities impact the operations of other departments.

Qualifications and experience

  • Professional qualifications such as ACII or equivalent industry certifications are highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ underwriting, ceded reinsurance, or broking experience within the (re)insurance industry.

  • Strong understanding of pricing methodologies, risk structuring, portfolio management, and aggregation monitoring principles.
  • Existing relationships within the Bermuda and/or London reinsurance markets would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities, with financial acumen and the ability to assess portfolio impacts and support strategic decision‑making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships internally and externally.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to changing demands, and deliver results under pressure.
