The Role
GQ is an editorial powerhouse, with 20 global editions and 30M social followers. British GQ reaches an audience of nearly 60M people every month across our multi-platform channels. GQ is hiring a Head of Editorial Content (HEC) to lead the British GQ editorial team and develop a robust editorial strategy to drive audience growth. This role will be responsible for setting a clear editorial vision for British GQ while also aligning with GQ’s global presence.
The HEC will work closely with the editorial team to craft audience-driving content across multiple platforms, develop engaging editorial tentpoles and franchises, and establish a strong creative point of view—while also meeting KPIs and maintaining an efficient workflow. The HEC will lead and manage British GQ’s editorial team to ensure a positive, empowered working environment, establishing goals as well as managing group and individual performance.
The HEC will play a strong role in GQ’s global network, sharing local content, participating in—and helping shape—global editorial moments, and contributing to GQ’s global presence. The HEC will operate as the ambassador of British GQ, both while attending international events and as host of local tentpole events, including GQ Heroes and Men of the Year. The role will require shaping and leading these tentpole events — and overall event strategy. This includes ensuring their success by leveraging relationships with talent and commercial partners, and keeping British GQ on the cutting edge of red carpets, social, and video content.
The HEC will also closely collaborate with stakeholders within the Condé Nast organisation to capitalise on revenue growth opportunities for the brand, including subscriptions, events, commercial partnerships, and more.
The perfect candidate will have a strong editorial point of view and a clear editorial strategy for continuing British GQ’s growth. They must have experience managing editorial staff, an aptitude for storytelling, a demonstrated ability to understand and capitalise on the cultural zeitgeist, a keen sense of the celebrities and talent who will resonate with the brand’s audience, and the agility to meet British GQ’s audience where it is with elevated content that captures attention at scale, regardless of the platform.
They should be comfortable with setting and communicating high-level, long-term editorial strategy as well as deftly guiding the daily process of ideating, editing, and packaging content across all platforms. They should have experience using audience insights to refine their tactics, with the ability to drive multiple projects forward at once, and the skill to manage a variety of strategic priorities over various timelines.
The British GQ Head of Editorial Content will report to the Global Editorial Director of GQ.
What will you be doing?

- Oversee British GQ content production, working closely with the team’s editorial leadership to ensure efficiency and quality. This includes flagging content for legal and cultural sensitivities.
- Collaborate closely with commercial and consumer revenue teams to support revenue-driving opportunities.
- Fully oversee the brand’s events (including GQ Heroes and Men of the Year): lead on creative execution and high-level content strategy; help shape commercial integration; attend and host events; liaise with commercial clients; and anything else required to ensure events success.
- Potential to write stories for digital and print, conduct interviews, and appear in digital/video programming as required.
- Work closely with local HR, Finance, Director of Editorial Operations and Global Editorial Director to ensure efficient team organisation; in addition, work across these stakeholders to design and fill any open roles within the British GQ editorial organisation.
- Manage local editorial team, including goal setting, resolving conflicts, building team morale, developing junior talent, and coaching staff.
