The Role
The Copy Director will be responsible for the copy health and workflow of British Vogue, focussing on print (and web/digital as needed). The role will work daily with the brand to meet deadlines and with the Global Workflow Team to support best practices and maintain workflows. The Copy Director will also be involved in file management and may also participate in display writing, and light fact-checking and will train and supervise the work of copy managers and/or copy editors and freelancers. As a Copy Director for British Vogue, you will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of editorial integrity, supporting both the title and the company’s code of conduct. This role will liaise daily with fact-checking, art production, design, editorial and brand management. Organisationally, the Copy Director, British Vogue is part of the Content Integrity Group (CIG), reports to the Global Copy Director and works closely with brand leadership on deadlines and priorities.
What will you be doing
- Manage copy health for British Vogue.
- Ensure that copy is grammatically correct and elegantly edited.
- Fact-check copy as necessary.
- Flag possible legal issues.
- Devise strong headlines and stand firsts, as needed.
- Flag for sensitive language, including terms related to race and ethnicity, disability, gender and those suggestive of defamation.
- Liaise with all relevant departments, including creative, features and advertising, as well as commissioned writers.
- Support other brands if needed.
About You
- Strong, proven sub-editing experience.
- Experience working with a relevant title is a plus.
- Fact-checking experience is a plus.
- A meticulous eye for detail as well as a flair for writing engaging display copy.
- Organised, efficient and flexible.
- Ability to multitask.
- Good communication skills, comfortable dealing with all levels of staff.
- An ability to keep a cool head under pressure, and work consistently to adhere to tight deadlines.
- An inside-out knowledge of Adobe desktop products.
- CMS experience.
- Ability to embrace new platforms, technology and programs with ease.
- Cooperative team player who takes initiative.
