We’re building something powerful. Let’s build it together. We’ve delivered high-performance embedded computing solutions for four decades across industries including defence, telecoms, and aerospace. We’re proud to be experts in what we do and are looking for more brilliant people to join our team.
The Role
We are seeking a skilled FPGA Engineer to join our engineering team developing advanced single-board computer (SBC) solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with AMD (Xilinx) FPGA devices, strong proficiency in VHDL and FPGA design techniques. This role will involve working across the full FPGA development lifecycle, from requirements definition and architecture through to implementation, verification and validation.
What will I be delivering?
- System Architecture & Design: Work closely with system architects to derive and define FPGA requirements from high-level system specifications. Develop FPGA architectures to support SBC designs, including high-speed interfaces and embedded processor subsystems. Propose and evaluate design trade-offs to meet performance, power, and cost targets.
- Implementation & Integration: Develop FPGA designs using AMD Vivado for synthesis, implementation, and bitstream generation. Integrate MicroBlaze soft processors, peripherals, and custom IP within the system design. Collaborate with hardware and software teams to integrate FPGA and SoC components.
- Verification & Validation: Develop and execute testbenches using modern verification frameworks such as Cocotb, UVVM, or similar environments. Perform simulation, hardware bring‑up, and debug using tools like Vivado Logic Analyzer and Chipscope. Contribute to system-level validation of FPGA-based designs in conjunction with embedded software.
What do I need to bring with me?
- Essential knowledge & Experience: Proven experience with AMD (Xilinx) FPGAs, preferably Zynq, Kintex, or Artix families. Advanced knowledge of Vivado Design Suite, VHDL. Experience developing and integrating MicroBlaze processors and associated subsystems. Solid understanding of FPGA architecture design, clocking, resets, and interfacing. Familiarity with single-board computer architectures, including Intel processors and interfaces such as eSPI, PCIe, I2C, SPI, and UART. Experience with Cocotb, UVVM, or other modern verification methodologies.
- Desirable Skills: Exposure to embedded C/C++ development for FPGA-based processors. Understanding of signal integrity, timing closure, and hardware debug at board level. Experience collaborating in requirements-driven development (e.g., DOORS, Jama, or similar).
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
