Overview
Concrete4Change (C4C) is a pioneering R&D company developing breakthrough technology to permanently mineralise COâ‚‚ in concrete. We are finalising a mini full-flowsheet pilot plant at our Nottingham facility to operate over the next six months and feed into process design documentation and models for a scalable commercial demonstrator.

Senior Process Engineer (Job title flexible). Location: Nottingham, UK. Type: Permanent, Full-Time. Start Date: Immediate.
The Opportunity
Lead our scale-up journey—from lab pilot to commercial demonstration. Reporting to the CTO, you will play a key role in process modelling, pilot operation, scale-up design, equipment selection, and coordination with EPCs, subcontractors, and internal teams. This is an opportunity to apply multidisciplinary engineering skills to a transformative climate technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Design & Scale-up
- Collaborate with the CTO to define, optimise, and execute scale-up plans
- Develop process models and design documents, including heat and mass balances, equipment lists and sizing, utility and waste profiles
- Prepare PFDs, process descriptions, preliminary plot plans, techno-economic evaluations
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and integration of chemical recovery steps
- Pilot & Commercial Plant Operations
- Support commissioning, operation, and troubleshooting of the mini-plant
- Ensure learnings from the pilot feed into the commercial plant design
- Manage experimental runs and ensure high-quality data generation
- Oversee maintenance, upgrades, and modifications of pilot systems
- Forecast engineering workload and resource needs
- Lead or support cross-functional teams including subcontractors and EPCs
- Ensure safety, quality, and documentation standards are met
- Project manage engineering tasks, time, and budgets
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
- Work with chemists, mechanical engineers, process control engineers, and plant operators
- Provide clear communication and lead by example
- Support operational safety through systems like permit-to-work and equipment isolation
- Influence technical direction, team structure, and scale-up strategy
Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years’ experience in process design, commissioning, and scale-up, ideally involving solids handling or mineral processing
- Strong grasp of unit operations and chemical/physical transformations
- Proven ability to manage EPCs, subcontractors, and pilot plant construction
- Experience delivering engineering packages from concept to deployment
- Ability to analyse plant data and implement continuous improvement
- Strong project management and leadership skills
- Experience with Python, Excel, Aspen, Thermoflex, or similar tools
- Exposure to techno-economic analysis and cost modelling
- Knowledge of PLCs, SCADA, electrical systems, and process control
- Fluent in more than one language
- Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain one)
- Experience in carbon capture and mineralisation processes
- Background in concrete or cement chemistry
- Educated to at least BEng/BSc in Process or Chemical Engineering
- Willingness to travel and potentially relocate (future plant expected in UK or EU)
