Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 + Visa sponsorship (if required)

Role Overview

We are looking for a driven and hands-on Civil Engineer (R&D) to join our concrete technology team. You will lead and support concrete lab operations, including experimental design, materials testing, and integration of carbon capture technology into cement-based materials.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about sustainability, applied research, and industrial impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and optimise concrete lab operations in compliance with R&D and safety standards
  • Design and execute experiments to evaluate carbon capture utilisation (CCU) effects on concrete performance
  • Oversee procurement and setup of lab equipment and infrastructure
  • Collaborate with chemists, engineers, and partner institutions to deliver data-driven results
  • Contribute to project planning, reporting, and cross-functional innovation

Candidate Profile

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in Civil Engineering, Material Science, or related field
  • Proven track record in leading independent research projects
  • Strong understanding of concrete mixing, casting, curing, and mechanical testing
  • Experience in laboratory setup, equipment specification, and HSE compliance
  • Excellent communication and team coordination skills
  • Industry R&D experience in construction or materials science is highly desirable
