The Senior Buyer will be responsible for the management of new tenders through the supply chain from enquiry to production order launch. The senior buyer position requires a detail orientated professional, who possesses excellent communication and relationship building skills, coupled with the ability to work under a somewhat time pressured environment to satisfy production demands. The role requires the ability to influence buying decisions at the front end of the process to guarantee preferred terms with regards to quality, cost and delivery that will directly feed into the Procurement strategy and the departments SQCDP targets and provide the best chance of securing new business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Communication:
- Build and maintain supplier relationships, providing clear communication on day to day procurement activities.
- Work with suppliers when reviewing tenders to ensure correct information is sent and best solution provided upon tendering.
- Liaise with wider team when making supplier selection decisions.
- Be clear and concise when reviewing tenders with Procurement/Commercial and have the ability to offer multiple business cases to offer the customer the best supply chain solution to meet their needs.
- Ability to liaise with customers as applicable when making supply chain decisions and support both the Procurement and Commercial Manager as appropriate.
- Escalate issues that cannot be resolved within the wider team to the Procurement Manager.
Safety:
- Conduct oneself in a safe and respectful manner, ensuring the ongoing health and safety of yourself and others.
Quality:
- Meticulously review RFQ tenders to ensure solution provided is in line with PP/Customer expectations.
- Accurately & diligently complete quote documentation to ensure correct pricing/lead time/MOQ/MOV/delivery charges/tool charges/liabilities etc are captured and costed to the customer with no hidden costs left with PP.
- Review, and if applicable, create any new vendors prior to production order launch with correct terms and liaise with Procurement Manager to allocate said supplier to relevant buyer to have all correct information ready for procurement activity.
- Update BC prior to production order launch with correct vendor/pricing/lead time information to guarantee correct buying activity.
- Liaise with wider team if/when items added to BOM at point of NPI to ensure product is ordered in line with customer demand.
Cost:
- Work with current/potential suppliers to negotiate cost reduction.
- Negotiate price/terms upon tender review to guarantee supplier is offering best terms upon RFQ in line with Customer expectations.
- Reject/defer cost increases from suppliers via negotiation.
- Identify methods to increase buying power with selected suppliers to increase preferential terms and in turn, result in cost reduction/supplier consolidation when requesting/reviewing new tenders.
- Ensure payment terms are in line with/exceed standard terms with all suppliers when setting up new vendors.
- Have the ability to negotiate discounted terms and rebate agreements to offer advantageous terms when applicable against new product.
- Diligently manage PPV with the commercial team to guarantee pricing variation is being captured and relayed back to the customer throughout project status.
Delivery:
- Update BC with correct lead time information from RFQ to ensure correct procurement activity in line with customer expectation and challenge lead time when this is not a reflection of recent quotation.
- Agree and manage Procurement RFQ deadlines as set upon receipt of enquiry to guarantee these are met.
People:
- To work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to establish and maintain working relationships.
- Engage in training/team building exercises to promote cross functional working.
- Support/facilitate project work when required.
- Demonstrate core values.
