A well-established hydraulic engineering company based in Dewsbury is looking to recruit a skilled Manual Turner to join its modern and well-equipped machine shop. With over 35 years of experience in the fluid power industry, the company specialises in the design, manufacture, supply and repair of high-quality hydraulic equipment including cylinders, pumps, motors, valves and power packs. The business focuses on specialist, high-end bespoke work and low-volume production, offering an interesting and varied workload rather than repetitive mass production.

The Role

Working within a large in-house engineering and hydraulics workshop, you will be responsible for producing precision-machined components, mainly one-off and small batch parts (1–10 pieces) used in hydraulic cylinders and associated equipment. This role would suit someone who enjoys precision work, problem-solving and variety, as much of the work is bespoke and requires a high level of skill and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operating manual lathes to produce precision components
  • Producing one-off and small batch components
  • Working from engineering drawings and samples
  • Carrying out screw cutting and general turning operations
  • Managing your own workload and working to production schedules
  • Maintaining high quality and accuracy standards

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience as a Manual Turner / Manual Machinist
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience producing bespoke or low-volume components
  • Ideally some experience with NC lathe work
  • A proactive and self-motivated approach to work

What’s On Offer

  • Competitive salary (depending on experience)
  • Overtime opportunities available
  • Modern, well-equipped machine shop
  • Supportive engineering team environment
  • Varied and interesting work on specialist hydraulic equipment
  • Long-term stability with an established engineering business
