Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Bevel Gear Machinist to join a manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Gleason gear cutting machines to produce high-precision bevel gears, including straight, spiral, and hypoid gears. This is a hands-on role requiring strong machining expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and program Gleason bevel gear cutting machines (e.g. Phoenix series, Coniflex, Revacycle).
- Cut, shape, and finish straight, spiral, and hypoid bevel gears to tight tolerances.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutters, and fixtures for each job.
- Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment.
- Adjust machine settings to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Carry out routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
- Work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
- Follow all health, safety, and quality standards at all times.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Bevel Gear Machinist / Gear Cutter.
- Strong working knowledge of Gleason gear cutting machines.
- Experience producing bevel gears (straight, spiral, and/or hypoid).
- Ability to read and understand complex technical drawings.
- Familiarity with precision measuring tools and inspection techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Skills
- CNC programming experience on Gleason systems.
- Experience working to ISO or similar quality standards.
- Background in aerospace, automotive, or heavy engineering environments.
