Concept Projects Group is looking for a proactive and motivated Technical Operative to join our Mechanical Engineering team. This is a hands-on role supporting Mechanical Engineers and skilled tradespeople across a range of industrial client sites, primarily across the Wirral and wider North West. The role will involve supporting the installation, maintenance and repair of plant, equipment and mechanical support systems. This could include assisting with materials and equipment, preparing tools and components, supporting fitting and fabrication work, helping with general mechanical repairs, maintaining clean and safe working areas, and learning how to carry out basic troubleshooting under supervision. This role would suit someone who has a keen interest in mechanical engineering, enjoys practical site-based work, and is looking to develop their skills within a busy engineering environment. For the right person, this role offers a clear development opportunity, with progression towards becoming a Mechanical Engineer within the team.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assist Mechanical Engineers and skilled tradespeople on client sites
- Support the installation, maintenance and repair of plant, equipment and mechanical support systems
- Load, unload, move and position materials, tools, equipment and components
- Prepare plant, machinery, hand tools, power tools, materials and component parts for installation and maintenance activities
- Support the repair and overhaul of general mechanical items such as motors, pumps, valves, bearings and shafts
- Assist with fitting, fabrication, general mechanical tasks and basic troubleshooting under supervision
- Operate or support the use of fabrication equipment, including cutting, welding, drilling and machine tools
- Follow health and safety procedures, site rules and PPE requirements at all times
- Report hazards, defects or unsafe conditions to site supervisors
- Maintain clean and tidy workspaces and support inventory management of consumables, tools, spares and supplies
- Communicate professionally with site teams, supervisors, clients and colleagues
Skills And Experience Required:
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems and processes
- Safe operation of hand tools and power tools
- Keen interest in mechanical engineering
- Recognised apprenticeship, time-served background or willingness to develop within a mechanical engineering environment
- General maintenance skills or willingness to develop these skills
- Strong attention to detail and basic problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work to deadlines
- Good communication skills, as this will be a client-facing role
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Commitment to health and safety
- Good time management, organisational skills and IT literacy
