Concept Life Sciences seeks an experienced Biophysicist to be a part of our integrated team of Protein Science, Biophysics and Structural Biology. A subject matter expert, you will apply deep expertise across Biophysical standalone and matrix Drug Discovery projects to guide client programmes, deliver high‑quality data and insights, and contribute to the continued growth and technical excellence of the department.

What you will be doing:

  • This senior role is based within our multi-disciplinary department of Protein Science, Biophysics and Structural Biology (PBSB), reporting to the department Director.
  • The successful candidate will provide scientific leadership to Drug Discovery projects, interpreting complex Biophysical data sets and pragmatically recommending how our clients may advance their research programmes.
  • Whilst this is primarily a lab-based role, and dependent on experience, you will also drive activities associated with promoting the growth, efficiency and scientific advancement of the PBSB department.
  • In addition, you may develop junior colleagues through training and mentoring.
  • The role is Biophysics focussed (SPR, GCI, ITC, DLS, ELS, DSF, DLS, DSC, NTA, SEC-MALS) and complimentary skills in Protein Production are highly desirable.
  • Experience in Structural Biology may also be considered.
  • As a Project Leader, you will take the lead on Biophysics Drug Discovery projects from initial client interaction through to successful project delivery, working closely with Business Development colleagues in this client facing role.
  • There will be a high degree of input into Business Development, including generating technical proposals and relevant marketing material.
  • The successful candidate will have significant interaction with external clients and a range of internal stakeholders including scientific peers, Business Development and Marketing to ensure the scientific excellence and integrity of services delivered.
  • As a company that operates globally, travel may be required. This role may also require occasional travel to our Chapel-en-le-Frith site (project dependent).

About you:

  • Deep subject matter expertise (wide range of Biophysical techniques required) gained in a CRO (preferred), Academic, Biotech, or Pharma environment.
  • Significant experience applying a broad range of Biophysical techniques in a Drug Discovery environment.
  • Extensive relevant experience.
  • Experience in Protein Science highly desirable.
  • Experience in other Structural Biology techniques (e.g. X-ray crystallography, Cryo-EM, Protein NMR) preferred.
  • Successful track record leading scientific projects in a client‑facing role.
  • Has supported development of more junior colleagues.
  • Liaison with and management of external vendor relationships.
  • Relevant PhD or equivalent postgraduate experience to demonstrate deep subject matter expertise.
