This role is Inside IR35. Clearance: No clearance required (must be willing/eligible to be cleared (will be discussed on application)). Location: Sidcup or Hendon. 3 days onsite. Expected to work 3 days per week on the estate, but site is flexible. Occasional site visits required depending on workload.
Technical Skills & Aptitude
- Highly IT literate and able to quickly learn new systems.
- Comfortable with software driven technical tasks (not a tools/engineering role).
- Ability to manage and maintain large databases, particularly access control systems (e.g., AOS).
- Tech savvy enough to navigate bespoke systems such as PSOP.
- Strong skills with general computer usage, email, admin platforms, and digital workflows.
Experience & Background
- Public sector experience NOT required — open to any background.
- Priority is on competence and capability, not previous policing/security experience.
- Access control experience is not essential, but advantageous.

Essential
- Must have strong interpersonal skills (oral and written) with a demonstrable ability to work effectively and collaboratively across a range of stakeholders and consultants.
- Must have experience configuring, deploying and managing access control and related systems in large and complex environments.
- Must have the ability to understand complex design drawings detailing the design, and installation of access systems and related physical infrastructure at single or multiple sites.
- Must be able to work to tight and often inflexible timescales in support of projects and operational requirements, delivering a high-quality service and output under pressure.
- Have project management experience of delivering both new and in-service electronic security systems, and have the ability to solve security-based problems applying a methodical and logical mind-set.
Desirable
- Be able to deputise for the subject matter expert for access and related ESS systems and be able to explain to non-experts how they work, the interaction process and interdependencies.
- Must have the flexibility to accommodate emergency requirements relating to access systems (as well as CCTV and alarms) including those related to the requirements of the Directorate of Professional Standards, where little or no notice of the requirement will be provided but the action is business-critical to the security of the estate.
- Ability to use computer aided design systems to create design information for projects and the ability to correctly interpret complex drawings and documentary information.
- Experience configuring, deploying and managing access control and related systems in sensitive sites and environments including those accredited to manage information and protect assets above Official–Sensitive.
- Hold an appropriate professional qualification relevant to ESS systems.
- Membership of a relevant professional body/institute.
- Detailed understanding of internal and external intruder detection systems, intruder alarms and personal attack systems where they interface with access systems as part of integrated security management systems (SMS) within control rooms and security control points.
- Demonstrable in-depth technical knowledge and management experience of physical and electronic security systems (access control, CCTV and alarms); the hardware and the controlling software; system configuration methods, system integration, the appropriate selection and deployment of systems, and commissioning techniques and protocols.
- Demonstrable, detailed understanding of closed circuit television and video entry systems (digital and analogue), recording systems, RAID servers, cabling, monitoring and software to include the legislative framework for CCTV use in the public domain and data protection compliance requirements (for both Custody and standard policing environments).
