At Northampton Saints, we believe the strongest futures are built from within. We are proud of our tradition of developing homegrown talent and creating ambitious pathways for both players and coaches to grow, progress and thrive. This role is an opportunity to shape that future – helping young forwards fulfil their potential while strengthening a high-performance state-school partnership that opens doors for the next generation.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS:

Northampton Saints has a proud tradition of developing homegrown players, with a long-term ambition to remain one of the leading player development environments in English rugby. Our partnership with Moulton College is a vital part of that vision, providing a genuine state-school pathway into elite performance rugby. In this role, you will lead the development of our forwards in the Development Phase while driving the strategic delivery of the Moulton College programme in the ACE League. You will play a central role in creating an environment where young athletes can grow technically, tactically and personally – and where coaches can continually learn, contribute and develop within the Saints pathway.

This is more than a coaching role. It is an opportunity to help shape a development system that reflects the Saints DNA: ambitious, inclusive, values-led and committed to long-term growth. We want to create the best possible platform for young players from across the region to access elite coaching, meaningful opportunity and a clear route forward. Equally, we want to continue building a coaching environment where talented people can grow their careers from within our system and make a lasting impact on the future of the Club.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Lead Northampton Saints’ state-school partnership with Moulton College, shaping a high-quality and aspirational rugby environment.
  • Coach and develop the Development Phase forwards, delivering outstanding technical and tactical support that prepares players for progression through the pathway.
  • Drive talent identification and recruitment for the college programme, helping to uncover and nurture potential from across the region.
  • Work closely with Moulton College to align curriculum, performance support and coaching delivery so that players experience a joined-up development journey.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with feeder clubs, schools, parents and other key stakeholders to strengthen the Saints pathway.
  • Create and implement individual development plans that support players to progress both within the college setting and through the Saints Development Phase.
  • Deliver outreach activity with England Academy Players and identify Foundation Phase players ready to step into the next stage of their journey.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • An experienced forwards coach with a strong background in player development and long-term athletic development.
  • Someone who is passionate about developing people and creating environments where others can grow, improve and succeed.
  • A collaborative coach who thrives as part of a motivated multi-disciplinary team and values working in partnership with others.
  • Adaptable, innovative and able to respond positively to the changing needs of developing players and programmes.
  • Qualified to Advanced Coaching Award level, with experience of using Sports Code and Hudl to support performance analysis and development.
  • In possession of a full UK driving licence and ready to travel as required to support the role.

WHY JOIN SAINTS:

This is a chance to make a visible difference in a club that is deeply committed to its pathway and proud of its ability to develop talent from within. You will join an ambitious environment where growth matters – where the development of players, coaches and people is central to how we build for the future. If you are excited by the opportunity to shape lives, strengthen a pathway and help the next generation of Saints take their next step, we would love to hear from you.
