Application Engineer in Manchester

Manchester Full-Time On-site
C

Working pattern: Office-based
Travel: Regular UK and international travel required
Reports to: Application Manager
Salary: £28000 – £32000 per annum
Contract type: Permanent (Full time)
Closing date: 7 December 2026. We encourage early applications, we review applications as they arrive and may appoint before the closing date.

The Opportunity

Delsys develops advanced technologies for measuring and understanding human movement and muscle activity. Our systems are used internationally across movement science, engineering, neurophysiology and, increasingly, applied sports and sports medicine.

We are looking for an Application Engineer to join our growing European Applications team.

This is an early-career role for someone with a scientific or engineering background who enjoys working with people and wants to see technology being applied outside of the classroom or laboratory.

You don’t need previous industry or sales experience. We’re much more interested in finding someone who is curious, engaging, enthusiastic and keen to learn.

A significant focus of the role will be supporting the growth of our Applied market, where we work with practitioners across high-performance sport and sports medicine. You’ll work closely with our Application Manager to demonstrate our technology, onboard new users, support existing customers and help practitioners understand how EMG can complement their existing assessment and performance workflows.

About the role

Supporting our Applied market. Working closely with the Application Manager, you will:

  • Support onsite demonstrations of Delsys technology with prospective customers, particularly within high-performance sport and sports medicine.
  • Help prepare, set up and deliver practical demonstrations and customer training.
  • Support the onboarding of new customers, helping them become confident and successful users of our technology.
  • Attend conferences, industry events and exhibitions across the UK, Europe and the Middle East.
  • Engage with practitioners and customers at events, gradually developing the confidence and technical knowledge to hold conversations independently.
  • Help coordinate webinars, workshops and other educational initiatives with customers, ambassadors and industry partners.
  • Support ongoing relationships with existing users, helping us understand how our technology is being incorporated into real-world practice.
  • Capture customer feedback, emerging workflows and success stories that can help shape how we support and develop the market.
  • Keep up to date with developments in high-performance sport, sports medicine and related technologies.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone at the beginning of their career who combines a scientific mindset with a genuine enjoyment of working with people.

You might be a Sports Science graduate fascinated by performance technology, a Physiotherapy or Sports Therapy graduate interested in how objective measurement can facilitate recovery, or an engineer who wants to apply technology to human performance. Your exact degree matters less to us than your attitude. You also won’t be expected to arrive with sales experience or immediately manage your own sales target. Instead, you’ll help facilitate the commercial process by providing excellent technical, practical and customer support to the wider team.

Equally, we don’t expect you to arrive knowing everything about EMG. We’ll teach you that. What matters is that you’re interested in understanding it and excited about helping other people use it successfully.

You’ll probably enjoy this role if you:

  • Are naturally personable, enthusiastic and comfortable meeting new people.
  • Have a genuine interest in high-performance sport, sports medicine, human movement or performance technology.
  • Are curious and enjoy learning about unfamiliar technologies and applications.
  • Can communicate scientific or technical concepts clearly without making them unnecessarily complicated.
  • Enjoy practical, hands‑on work rather than spending every day behind a desk.
  • Are happy working as part of a small team where people regularly help one another.
  • Are organised and comfortable balancing customer-facing activities with the behind-the-scenes work needed to make them successful.
  • Like the idea of travelling, meeting customers and experiencing how technology is used in very different environments.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant science, engineering or healthcare-related discipline. Relevant subjects could include Sports Science, Sports Therapy, Physiotherapy, Biomedical Engineering, Biomechanics, Human Movement Science or similar.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working directly with customers and speaking with new people.
  • Genuine interest in high-performance sport and/or sports medicine.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly within the UK and internationally.
  • Willingness to occasionally work weekends where required for conferences or industry events.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Academic or practical exposure to EMG, biomechanics, sports performance, rehabilitation or human movement.
  • Understanding of common sports injuries, rehabilitation or return-to-sport processes.
  • Experience working, volunteering or studying within a sporting, clinical or performance environment.
  • Experience presenting scientific or technical information to others.

These are genuinely desirable rather than essential. We would encourage candidates with the right scientific foundation, curiosity and personality to apply even if they don’t meet every point above.

Working at Delsys

You’ll be joining a small, collaborative European team working with customers across a remarkably diverse range of applications from academic research and engineering laboratories to high-performance sporting environments.

The role will initially be office-based, allowing you to work closely with and learn from the wider team. Once established in the position, there will be the opportunity to move to a semi-hybrid arrangement, typically including one day per week working from home.

Benefits include:

  • Additional day of annual leave for your birthday.
  • Company Pension
  • 31 days annual leave allowance
  • Opportunities for entry in bonus scheme

Most importantly, you’ll be joining at an interesting point in our growth, with the opportunity to help develop how our technology is used in emerging applications and to grow alongside the team.
