To lead, manage and optimise all melting operations (electric furnaces), ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality metal in line with production requirements, while driving efficiency, cost control, and continuous improvement across the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership & Accountability
- Take full responsibility for all activities within the melting department, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant operations at all times.
- Lead and manage the melting team, setting clear expectations, monitoring performance, and driving accountability.
- Ensure all personnel perform effectively in line with their roles, responsibilities, and company standards.
- Plan, organise and oversee furnace charging and melting activities to meet daily production requirements.
- Quality & Process Control
- Ensure all metal produced meets the required grade specifications and quality standards.
- Authorise release of melts only where correct Atas profiles and quality parameters are achieved.
- Maintain and continuously improve process standards within the department.
- Lead investigations into deviations from operating specifications and implement corrective actions.
- Continuous Improvement & Cost Optimisation
- Drive continuous improvement in melting practices to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve output quality.
- Identify, recommend, and implement cost-saving initiatives across all melting processes.
- Monitor and control departmental costs, including labour and overtime, ensuring alignment with budget expectations.
- Evaluate all aspects of the melting process to identify opportunities for performance and cost improvements.
- People Management & Development
- Lead, coach and develop team members to build capability, engagement, and succession within the department.
- Support training and upskilling initiatives to ensure operational excellence and flexibility.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Production & Resource Management
- Ensure furnaces are correctly prepared and maintained to deliver the required quality and volume of metal.
- Work closely with production planning to align melting output with operational demand.
- Actively contribute to the foundry scrap team, supporting material efficiency and waste reduction.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all activities are carried out in line with health, safety and environmental standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture within the team, leading by example.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Deputise for senior leadership as required.
- Contribute to wider foundry strategy and operational improvements.
Benefits
