A leading engineering business is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Key Account Manager to join its growing commercial team based in High Wycombe. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual with experience in industrial distribution, manufacturing, engineering components, or raw materials who is looking to develop their career within a fast-growing and ambitious organisation.
The Role
As Key Account Manager, you will be responsible for developing and managing strategic customer relationships, identifying growth opportunities, and delivering profitable sales growth across key accounts. You will work closely with sourcing, purchasing, marketing, and operational teams to ensure exceptional customer service and successful delivery of customer projects. The role combines account management, business development, commercial negotiation, and technical sales support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage relationships with key customer accounts across the region
- Identify opportunities to increase sales, margin, and customer engagement within existing accounts
- Generate and qualify new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, and lead follow-up
- Conduct regular customer visits and attend exhibitions or industry events where required
- Manage customer RFQs from initial enquiry through to quotation and successful conversion
- Work closely with sourcing and purchasing teams to identify suitable component solutions
- Ensure quotations are delivered accurately, competitively, and within agreed timescales
- Maintain and update customer pipelines, opportunities, and activity using CRM systems
- Support the implementation and promotion of new product ranges and value-added services
- Collaborate with marketing teams to support campaigns, promotional activities, and market feedback
- Provide commercial and technical support to internal sales teams and account managers
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer requirements to identify growth opportunities
- Ensure all sales activity aligns with profitability targets and business strategy
- Report new business activity in line with bid management and pipeline processes
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across customer service, sourcing, and sales processes
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience in Key Account Management, Technical Sales, or Business Development
- Background in manufacturing, engineering, industrial distribution, fasteners, components, or raw materials preferred
- Strong commercial awareness and relationship-building skills
- Experience managing RFQs, quotations, and customer negotiations
- Ability to work collaboratively across sourcing, purchasing, and operational teams
- Confident communicator with strong presentation and customer-facing skills
- Self-motivated, organised, and results-driven
- CRM experience preferred
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for customer visits
Package
- Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 per annum (depending on experience)
- Bonus potential
- 23 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Working hours: 08:30 – 5pm (Monday – Friday)
