Comtec is a family-owned, B Corp-certified localisation agency. We are looking to ramp up our growth, and that is where this role comes in.
We are looking for a Business Development Executive to help us start more conversations and create more opportunities. In practice, you would be the person proactively identifying the companies worth talking to, reaching out to the right people, asking thoughtful questions, qualifying opportunities and setting up meetings for our commercial team to take forward.
What you'd be doing:
- Research the companies worth approaching, and work out who the right person to speak to actually is.
- Reach out by phone, email and LinkedIn, and follow up with persistence.
- Qualify opportunities by asking good questions and listening properly to the answers.
- Book discovery meetings for the commercial team, and brief them well enough to walk in prepared.
- Keep opportunities moving, so that nothing promising is allowed to drift and go quiet.
- Reconnect with past and lower-spend clients, and notice where existing ones might be ready for more.
- Keep the CRM in good order, so that we always have a clear picture of the pipeline.
Who we're looking for:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years' experience in outbound B2B sales, business development or lead generation. You enjoy talking to people you don't know yet, and you keep going when they don't reply straight away, because you understand that persistence is most of the job.
What matters most beyond that is the attitude you bring:
- The confidence to talk to people you don't know, whether on the phone or in writing.
- The initiative to get on with things rather than waiting for permission.
- A genuine curiosity about people, businesses and what makes them work.
- The resilience to keep going when conversations take time to develop.
- Clear, warm communication that reads and sounds like a real person.
- The ambition to hit a target, paired with the good sense to be coached towards it.
- A positive, cheerful attitude!
Helpful, but not essential:
- An interest in languages, international business or communication more broadly.
- A second language, a language degree, or a background in marketing or business would all be a bonus.
- Any exposure to sectors such as SaaS, technology, retail, learning and development or marketing would help you find your feet more quickly.
If you have the right attitude but not quite the CV to match it, we would still like to hear from you.
What's in it for you:
- £28,000–£32,000 depending on experience, plus team bonus.
- Hybrid working, with flexibility for the right candidate.
- A genuine opportunity to grow in the role.
- Coaching and support from experienced colleagues.
- Exposure to international clients, localisation and AI-enabled language technology.
- A clear development path towards either New Business Manager or Account Development.
- The chance to be part of a small team where your work will be noticed and your ideas will genuinely count.
Our preference is for this person to spend time with the team in our Leamington Spa office, Monday to Wednesday, as collaboration, coaching, and learning from the wider commercial team will be important parts of the role. However, we're flexible for the right candidate.
How to apply:
Please apply via LinkedIn with your CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to send a short informal video introduction telling us a little about themselves and what appeals to them about the role.
One thing worth knowing about the process: the later stages include a couple of short, practical exercises, such as drafting a cold introductory email and a follow-up.
