A small but stable business based near Soham, Cambridgeshire, specializing in designing and assembling scientific machinery for various R&D environments, is looking to hire a mechanical engineer due to an upcoming retirement. Full training will be provided.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Produce 2D drawings using DesignCAD
  • Design vacuum-based instrumentation
  • Utilize 3D modeling for assembly reviews
  • Design using materials such as polymers, alloys, bronze, and stainless steel
  • Work as the sole mechanical engineer after a hand-over period

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience with 2D and 3D design software
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to take on new challenges
  • Experience with ultra-high vacuum systems (advantageous)
  • Experience with high-voltage ion optics (advantageous)
