About the Role and Client
The Technical & AI Design Authority is a strategic role, reporting into the Group ICT Director, responsible for designing, governing, and evolving the enterprise architecture across a multi-company group while simultaneously overseeing artificial intelligence adoption, governance, and innovation. This role bridges business objectives, technology strategy, and emerging AI capabilities to ensure the group's ICT architecture is coherent, secure, compliant, and positioned to capture value from AI while managing associated risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Enterprise Architecture & Technical Design Authority:
- Own and maintain the group's current-state and target enterprise architecture across business, application, data, infrastructure, and security domains.
- Review and approve major technology initiatives, system designs, and architectural changes.
- Establish and enforce technology governance policies, including technology radar, approved technology stacks, and deprecation strategies.
- Align individual company and vertical IT strategies with the group architecture and roadmap.
- Participate in the group's AI governance framework, including approved AI use cases, guardrails, and security controls.
- Act as a point of review for proposed AI use cases across the group.
- Define security controls and guardrails for AI systems (e.g., data loss prevention, model access controls, prompt/output filtering, audit trails).
- Identify and prioritise opportunities for AI adoption across ICT operations.
- Define architectural patterns for AI integration (e.g., how AI services integrate with core systems, data flows, MLOps, model serving, monitoring).
Essential Requirements
- Enterprise Architecture: 5+ years designing, implementing, or evolving enterprise architecture at a group or multi-company level. Experience with architecture frameworks (TOGAF, ZA, or equivalent) is essential.
- IT Governance and Standards: 5+ years in a governance, architecture, or standards-setting role; experience defining and enforcing IT policies, technology standards, and design governance.
- Large-scale, Complex Organisations: Proven success in matrix or federated organisations with multiple business units, geographies, or verticals; experience navigating stakeholder alignment and organisational change.
- Technology Leadership: Track record of influencing and guiding senior technical and business leaders; ability to translate between business and technical language.
- Technical Depth: Strong hands-on understanding of modern IT architecture domains (cloud, microservices, APIs, data platforms, security, infrastructure). Note, not required to be expert in all, but broad understanding essential.
