Overview
In this role you will be the senior subject matter expert for complex software licensing and related governance. You will support major vendor renewals, optimise licence positions, and drive cost control and risk reduction for a strategic customer environment. You will shape recommendations for senior stakeholders and mentor the team while leading improvements in controls and automation. This is a hands-on, accountable position that directly influences financial outcomes and decision-making in a cloud and transformation context.
Responsibilities
- Act as the accountable SME for complex software licensing, compliance, optimisation and financial matters
- Support major-vendor renewals, licence positions, reconciliation and audit defence with vendors like Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Adobe and Veritas
- Translate licence, contractual, cost and technology data into clear recommendations for customers and stakeholders
- Identify savings, cost avoidance, demand reduction and licence reharvesting opportunities
- Support budgets, forecasts, renewals, project uplifts, cross-charges and Finance reporting
- Utilise Snow or equivalent tooling, discovery and entitlement data to improve analysis and decision-making
- Assess licensing impacts across transformation, data-centre, cloud, migration and upgrade activity (Azure cost considerations)
- Represent Software Asset Management in governance, managing actions, decisions and escalations
- Lead service improvements through controls, automation, AI, workflows and reusable standards
- Set priorities, mentor analysts and ensure quality delivery while owning outcomes
Key requirements
- Substantial experience in Software Licence Management or closely related role
- Strong knowledge of major-vendor licensing with depth in at least two vendors (Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Adobe, Veritas)
- Track record leading complex licence analysis, renewals, audits or optimisation
- Experience assessing licensing implications across projects, migrations, cloud adoption
- Working knowledge of Snow or equivalent tooling, discovery, entitlements, reconciliation, metering and reharvesting
- Ability to interpret contracts, terms, designs and financial data and explain impact
- Comfort working with senior stakeholders across customer, technical, Finance, Commercial and vendor groups
- Experience leading or developing analysts and delivering high-quality service
- Calm, accountable, hands-on, with strong documentation and relationship-building
- Security clearance or ability to maintain required clearance
- Relevant certifications in Software Licence Management, ITSM, cloud, FinOps or vendor areas are advantageous (Azure cost management, Power BI, workflow automation)
