The Operational Lead, Group Legal & Compliance (GLC) Operations plays a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of the GLC Operations strategy and enabling large-scale transformation across the function.
Reporting to the Head of GLC Operations, this role acts as a key deputy on strategic and transformational initiatives, supporting programme governance, execution of project plans, and the successful delivery of complex change across GLC and the wider business. The role combines strong operational leadership, project delivery capability and stakeholder management, ensuring strategic priorities are translated into practical, sustainable outcomes.
The role will work closely with senior stakeholders across Legal, Compliance, Finance, Sales, HR, IT and external partners, and will be instrumental in embedding new ways of working, processes, tools and governance frameworks within the GLC function.
What you'll do
- Strategic & Operational Support
- Act as a trusted deputy to the Head of GLC Operations, providing day-to-day operational support and acting on their behalf where required on initiatives, forums and projects.
- Support the development and execution of the GLC Operations roadmap, ensuring alignment with broader business and transformation priorities.
- Translate strategic objectives into clear delivery plans, milestones and operational activities across the function.
- Transformation & Change Delivery
- Play a leading role in GLC and enterprise-wide transformation programmes, supporting design, mobilisation and delivery phases.
- Support execution of project plans, tracking progress, managing dependencies, risks and issues, and ensuring delivery against agreed outcomes.
- Act as a bridge between strategy and execution, ensuring change is pragmatically implemented within GLC teams.
- Support change management activities, including stakeholder engagement, training and adoption of new processes and tools.
- Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency and scalability of GLC operational processes, governance and workflows.
- Support the design and rollout of standardised L2/L3 processes, operating models and controls across GLC.
- Contribute to the development of performance metrics, reporting and management information to support effective decision-making.
- Stakeholder & SME Management
- Work closely with GLC subject matter experts, operational leads and functional teams to coordinate input into projects and initiatives.
- Support cross-functional collaboration across the business to ensure legal and compliance requirements are appropriately embedded in wider programmes.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders to influence outcomes and ensure alignment with GLC priorities.
- Governance & Delivery Discipline
- Maintain the right internal governance principles in the ways of working across the GLC Operations team.
- Ensure appropriate delivery discipline, documentation and controls are applied across projects and initiatives.
- Support engagement with external advisors and partners where required (e.g. consultants, systems integrators).
What you'll need
Essential:
- Experience in an operational, transformation or delivery role within Legal, Compliance or a comparable professional services function.
- Proven experience supporting or delivering multi-stakeholder change initiatives.
- Understanding of operating models, process design and change management principles.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with confidence working with senior leaders.
- Ability to translate strategic intent into clear, executable plans.
Desirable:
- Experience within a regulated or compliance-driven environment.
- Exposure to operating model transformation, CLM or legal technology implementations.
- Experience working as a deputy or second-in-command to a senior leader.
- Familiarity with large-scale enterprise transformation programmes.
