The Registered Nurse – Step Down provides specialized nursing care to patients transitioning from intensive care to a lower acuity setting.

This role involves close monitoring, individualized bedside care, and collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure safe recovery and continuity of treatment for pre- and post-surgical patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in consultation with healthcare professionals.
  • Provide direct and individualized bedside nursing care to patients recovering from surgery or critical illness.
  • Prepare, administer, and record prescribed medications accurately.
  • Perform clinical procedures including changing dressings, inserting catheters, and initiating IV therapy.
  • Monitor patient status and promptly report changes to the medical team.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support patient recovery and safe discharge planning.
  • Required Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced step-down unit environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
