We are seeking a reliable, skilled, and proactive Site Officer to ensure the security, maintenance, health and safety, and smooth daily operation of a busy secondary academy campus in Slough. Working closely with the Facilities Manager, the successful candidate will carry out essential site inspections, routine repairs, contractor management, and caretaking duties to provide a safe, secure, and well-maintained learning environment for staff and pupils.
THE SCHOOL
Set on a modern, well-equipped campus featuring multi-story teaching blocks, specialist sports halls, science laboratories, and extensive outdoor playing fields, this vibrant secondary academy supports over 1,200 pupils aged 11-18. As an inclusive, community-focused school, it places high priority on creating a welcoming and clean physical environment. The premises team operates as a cohesive, hands-on unit dedicated to upholding high operational standards across all facilities, grounds, and building systems.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
- Site Security & Access Control: Manage campus opening and locking procedures, operate intruder and fire alarm systems, and monitor site security to safeguard pupils, staff, and premises.
- Building Maintenance & Repairs: Perform general DIY, minor plumbing, painting, carpentry, and basic electrical repairs, ensuring building fixtures and fittings remain in good working order.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Conduct routine health and safety checks, including water hygiene (legionella monitoring), fire alarm testing, emergency lighting checks, and playground/equipment inspections.
- Grounds & Cleaning Supervision: Oversee daily cleaning operations, assist with litter clearance, coordinate seasonal grounds maintenance, and handle waste disposal across the school grounds.
- Lettings & Event Setup: Prepare assembly halls, sports facilities, and meeting rooms for daily school activities, evening community lettings, parent evenings, and examination periods.
Qualifications
Relevant trade or facilities maintenance qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds in DIY/Building Maintenance, IOSH Managing Safely, or basic COSHH and manual handling certifications) are highly desirable.
Experience
Proven experience in caretaking, site management, facilities support, or handyperson roles, ideally within an educational, public sector, or commercial setting.
Skills
Strong practical DIY and maintenance skills, clear knowledge of health and safety regulations, good physical fitness for active daily tasks, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work flexibly.
