Compound is an award-winning real estate investment and development manager, founded in 2022 and focused on building a portfolio of high-quality, purpose-built self-storage across London and the Southeast. Our growing portfolio includes operational assets and an active development pipeline, combining strong real estate fundamentals with a focus on quality, innovation, and long-term value creation.
As the platform enters its next growth phase, we are strengthening our in-house capabilities. Joining Compound offers the opportunity to work directly with an entrepreneurial leadership team, help shape the financial infrastructure of a growing business and make a tangible impact from day one.
THE ROLE
We are seeking a commercially minded, hands-on Financial Controller to establish and lead Compound’s in-house finance function. As our first dedicated finance hire, you will own financial reporting, accounting, treasury and controls across the group and its property SPVs, while supporting the investment and development teams with forecasting, funding and financial analysis.
This broad role offers direct exposure to the CEO, lenders, investors, and external advisers. You will build scalable systems and processes, provide timely financial insight, and have the opportunity to grow into a senior finance leadership role as the business expands.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Manage day-to-day accounts payable and receivable across Compound and its SPVs, including contractor, consultant, and supplier payments
- Prepare monthly management accounts for each entity and on a consolidated basis
- Track development costs against approved budgets and appraisals
- Review contractor valuations, payment certificates, and retentions with our cost consultants
- Prepare cash flow forecasts at scheme and company level, manage treasury across multiple bank accounts, and perform bank reconciliations
- Prepare development finance drawdown requests and lender reporting, and monitor covenant compliance
- File VAT and CIS returns, manage routine tax compliance with our advisers, and run monthly payroll
- Manage year-end with our external accountants and auditors
- Keep intercompany accounting and capitalised development and finance costs accurate across all entities
- Build the financial controls, approval processes, and systems the business needs as it scales, including the finance set-up for new SPVs
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with 5+ years’ post-qualification experience
- Real estate development or investment experience is highly desirable, ideally including development finance, project cost reporting, and multi-SPV structures
- Hands-on experience across the full accounting cycle, plus working knowledge of FRS 102, capitalised development costs, the VAT option to tax, and CIS
- Strong Excel skills, including cash flow forecasting, and experience with accounting software such as Xero
- Comfortable as the sole finance hire in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial business, and as happy rolling up your sleeves as thinking strategically
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail, and confident working with senior leadership, lenders, investors, and advisers
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive salary, dependent on experience
- The chance to set up Compound’s finance systems, processes, and controls from the ground up
- Direct exposure to senior leadership and the ability to influence strategy from day one
- Involvement across the full development cycle, from acquisition and funding through construction to completion
